Multiple instruments per sample? | |
Hello all,
I just got into Psycle a while ago and it's looking very interesting - especially Psycle 2!
I looked at the instrument panel preview screenshot and read through some notes in the forum here, but I'm not quite sure so I have to ask:
Will Psycle 2 also allow you to create several instruments out of one sample like Impulse Tracker?
Maybe I'm spoiled, but if I, for instance, want staccato strings, forte strints and crescendo strings, I prefer making three different instruments out of the string sample with different volume envelopes rather than using volume slide commands (less typing). And I don't want to load the sample three times into the memory to be able to do this.
So, what's the verdict on this?

Welcome to the boards :·)
Me, being an ex-ITer, like the way IT was made in that part, and I took this in consideration when doing it.
It is not visible in there, because it would be too much in that screen, but basically happens the same than in IT. And this is, you indicate the samples that you want to use from a sample pool.
This sample pool appear when you click "add", and it's a dialog where you can browse your HD to add samples to the pool, and then select those samples from the pool to be used.
The user only reaches this screen when he really wants to add new samples to instruments. To add a new instrument (being it a real instrument, or a wav file), you directly select it and the instrument is created. (No need to go through the sample pool)
Also, I am happy to say that PsyClean will possibly be ported to MAC!!!
Big hopes on it :·)))
See you!

hi skaven!
Great to have more people in the community - I wonder are you Skaven / Future Crew? (I had conversation with him years ago when he was doing animation in dublin) I know that he loves to make orchestral music

Hello all, and sorry for the delay. First I was busy, and then this site seemed ot be down... anyway, yeah, I'm that Future Crew one and hello all, and, uhh, something.
Jaz, that sounds really promising! Psycle seems like the best of both worlds of IT and Buzz. In Buzz it was kind of tricky to jump between various patterns if, for example, you had created a drum set out of multiple different machines. In Psycle, all machines conform to one unified pattern command structure, so you can control all machines from one pattern if you want. Groovy!
And speaking of tracker commands.. will you be able to use all standard tracker commands (portamento, vibrato, volume slide, panning slide, arpeggio, etc) on every generator type machine within Psycle? That would be really cool! In Buzz it was kind of annoying when you had a synth that otherwise sounded really good, but if you wanted to do a fancy pitch-bended solo with it you were outta luck because the machine itself didn't allow it.
(again, I apologize if this issue has been discussed already previously)
About the envelopes... will they be ADSR or node-based? The latter gives more freedom, although editing the nodes is a bit slower than just tweaking ADSR parameters.
