bugs and some features | |
issues with some vstis, bugs and feature requests
issues with vst plugs:
- !JasonSynth Rebel 2 Max v2.002 - outputs only to left channel (or right cant remember now), everything else works fine. url: http://kuhn-management.de/software/rebel2-tech.htm
- A0 Audio DK1 v1.2 - no output at all, also if i trigger a note within the instrument (its got internal keyboard) im not getting any output. the vu meters in the plugin dont show any signal. url: http://www.a0audio.com/dk1.htm
- Native Instruments Absynth v1.3 - no output at all, i think it doesnt receive any midi from Psycle (works fine with Cubase) - PLZ MAKE THiS THiNG WORK. url: http://www.native-instruments.com/absynthpc
- Abacab Team NLSynth - dunno if this synth ate too much dope or Psycle doesnt work with it like it should (-: .. weird shi7 url: http://www.abacab-team.com/en/NLSynth.htm
- Audionaut Fresh Killed Beat v1.2 - crashes Psycle when i try to load it or when i doubleclick it to show the gui url: http://www.audionaut.com/software/
- Axxeom Trionic v1.03 - wont make any sound, even when i use its built in keyboard. (maybe it wont connect its outputs to psycle or summat like that) url: http://www.cleal.freeserve.co.uk/trionic.htm
- BoJo Impulse v2.0 & BoJo OrganOne v2.01 - when i install the plugins, Psycle sometimes crashes on startup or when i refresh the plugin list. altho plugs work fine when i load them. url: http://www.bojo.dk/impulse.htm http://www.bojo.dk/organone.htm
- Creamware Volkszämpler v1.0 - no output. url: http://www.creamware.de/en/Products/vz/default.asp
- Chaotik Mind Bowed Synth v0.35 - sends only to left channel, acts weird and crashes Psycle when unloading it, or quitting Psycle. http://chaotikmind.free.fr/vstplugg.htm
bugs:
- keyboard shortcuts in sample editor wont work
- when i close the sample editor window, some other app in the background gets the focus instead of psycle
- when browsing for samples (load sample dialog box) samples are played in psycles current samplerate instead of the wav's native samplerate; also, when browsing, maybe samples should be played/streamed directly from disk, instead of first loading them to RAM -- this will speedup the process of browsing for a specific sample as u dont have to wait for larger samples to first load in ram
- there should be a button 'create new sample/instrument' which will create a blank instrument, cuz psycle atm creates instruments only when loading a new sample from disk and not when pasting a sample from clipboard.
- [ctrl+s] does 'Save As...' instead of 'Save'.
features:
- pingpong loops for samples
- sliders to control how much panning/cutoff/reso should be randomized
- note delay randomizer in instrument editor
- find/replace function in pattern editor
- more comlpex envelopes and LFOs in envelope editor
- a 'midi out' machine, btw i think there is one for Buzz so u could port it to psycle
- ALL parameters in the instrument and envelope editors should be tweakable from pattern
- automatic loop point finder (check on modplug's sample editor)
- simple smooth/enhance (off line) functions in the wave editor
- right-click context menu in wave editor (instead of autozoom)
- button and/or keyboard shortcut for 'send to external sample editor'
- more channels, unlimited pattern lenght, another row for tracker commands and macros (read below)
- macros - summat ive seen in modplug, allows you to setup a complex command, like mcm or twk defining a specific variable in it, and then associate it to a simple old-skool tracker-like command. eg. MCM|C1|00|xx00 (change program number on midi chnl 2, generator 0, to XX) could be associated to Zxx and then change current program on midi channel 2
- quick copy and quick paste, eg. pressing [numpad +] will copy content under the current cursors position (single row only) to a separate/internal clipboard buffer, and then with [numpad -] paste it somewhere else
- copy/paste in the pattern editor should go thru the windows clipboard -- enables to move pattern data between more psycles running at the same moment
thats all.. for now mwrhrhrhrhr ~8)

cecio, i wasnt getting any output from DK1 even when i triggered the samples from within the plugg -- it wouldnt make any sound. anywayz, i was testing psycle with lots of vsti's (~130) if not all the vstis released for pc, to see how usable psycle's vst host is. i will continue testing it with more vstis' as much i can put my hands on. most of the vst fx work except few, like V Burell DX to VST adapter and some badly written plugins from JBM so im not spending any time testing vst fx.. there are enuf plugs that work but without multitimbral vsti support and still limited sampler psycle isnt much usable atm.
and btw something i forgot, :-)
- Jeff McClintock PD303 - outputs only to left chnl (same thing with !JSynth Rebel 2 Max) url: http://www.synthedit.com/pd303.htm

Just if you weren't aware, VST Host is being redesigned too (meaning starting a new code and using parts of the old one).
Psycle host has always been limited in that it gives plugins just the most used options, and this is where some fail, or even crash, because they expect more than just these ones. Also.. why redesign and not just add these new functions? To make it more standard compliant. (That anyway, not all plugins follow)

Hi JAL7OH, please excuse me for previous wrong response (and for my poor english), but my dial connection is under linux and I ain't test before reply to You.
o Open edit form for a slot
o Load a sample
o Set in note box low=48 center=48 high=48 (is C2)
o Play C4 (not C3) and sample is played
The note played is two octaves up in track editor. Probably this is a bug of psycle because with LoopAZoid and A0 DKL too is played with this octaves difference.
bye!

the mda-deesser is a compressor/limiter only for hi-fqs but this has nuttin to do with pd303. the fact is that pd303 only outputs to one channel and maybe mda deess is copying the left channel to both left and right. anywayz i wouldnt recomend using a de-esser with a vintage/analogue synth - it kills its 'phatness'.
if its a bug of the plugin itself and it outputs only mono, maybe psy should detect that and copy the same signal from the left chnl to the right. btw check the home page of PD303; Synthedit (a freeware modular synth a la reaktor) should be able to 'Save as VST' in the next version.. that means phun! :-)
cecio, maybe.. dunno.. maybe i havent tested it right. but i was testing psycle with more than 100 vsti's. and btw im aware of the octave difference in psycle im using vsampler and same thing is here.
JAZ, whatup with multitimbral vsti support?! :)

a) octaves: I will make some tests on this, but two octaves seems alot.
b) Mono output: Psycle does have a function to copy mono outputs to stereo, so that plugin might be identifying itself as stereo.
c) multitimbral: it's useless to copy the extra channels to the same output. Thus, you need to be able to have different outputs, which is not easy to add to Psycle. That's why I am doing PsyClean and it is the exact thing I am working out these days.

JAZ that would be awesome! psy will be the first tracker with multiout support for vsti (arguru decided not to implement it in aodix). btw aodix 2.3 is out with vsti support back and arguru is planning on releasing a new vsti - the internal synth in aodix 2 http://www.smartelectronix.com/~arguru
and btw, i think psycle is down one octave than midi standard, not two.

Hi folks!
Please, be patient with me. I'm not a musician. Further I don't
understand very well your posts (is my limitation).
But I like help You .
I don't distinguish if the octaves difference are two or one.
But with A0 DK1 the settings previous posted are exact.
With short samples (drum samples) A0 DK1 not plays but with
a long sample it plays. The played note act like a trigger
and if a sample is set for C2 response it plays only with
C4 event. I don't know if are right but it work.
Thanks for your patience, bye.

some things i forgot
bug:
i was playing with psycle and i had 3 vsti's loaded (NI Battery v1.01, NI Kontakt v1.1.105, STL VAZ 2001 v1.1), also in background i have VAZ Modular v2.1 which is controlled by Arguru's MidiOut VSTi thru MidiYoke. when i started insertng notes and MCMs for the MidiOut vsti -- just after i added it to the psy, Psycle started acting weird: when i pressed [F6] to play from begininng psycle duplicated the last note ive entered, all over the channel on which the cursor was. i pressed stop and [F6] again and it inserted a note (the last entered note manually by me) at the current cursor position and, again, continued to fill the pattern with the same note. meanwhile i entered some other notes, note offs etc.. but Psycle continued to copy the same note when i pressed play. I guess this particular piece of data (THE NOTE :o) went in some wrong place -- a buffer or summat and psycle kept putting it where it shouldnt. thats all.
this was all happening on a W2K Proffesional boxe, AMD Duron 750, 256 ram - a stable config
features:
- plz an option to set the autosave interval in 'Settings'
- the ADSR envelopes should have a slider or summat to set an overall time multiplier (eg x2, x4, x8...), to be able to make longer envelopes
- Random Pattern Step (check Aodix)
- Change VST patch command
- some other functions in the pattern editor: reverse block (reverses the order of notes in selection), double/half block (doubles/halves notes order in selection), delay (simulates delay by inserting notes, a popup will be needed to enter parameters like time, volume etc), interpolate notes (same as for machines or instruments only for notes)
- MIDI/VST INSTRUMENT EDITOR: like the current wavetable Instrument Editor only for midi/vst. this should be an internal machine acting same as the sampler, only with 'Instruments' instead of 'Waves'. Its function would be to give a specific set of MidiCC's or VST parameter changes to a machine everytime a note is triggered. So every 'Instrument' should be bound to a specific machine and fixed values (sliders), envelopes, LFOs to specific vst parameters (TWKs) or midi controllers (MCMs) on the machine.
- how about a .MID Import/Export
