Volume Fading        Go on top to this Page

Hi.

I recently got started with PSYCLE and really love it so far. There's only one thing that bothers me - I can't figure out how to easily work with dynamics.

My problem right now is that I have a synthie playing one note for quite a while and I want a crescendo from 0 to 100 from the start of the synthie note to its end.

Now I can adjust the volume by the twk-command and interpolate this command. BUT: In this case I have to insert the note every time again so that I do not have one long synthie-note but rather 64 short synthie-notes (with their volume increasing).

I just want to fade the synthie in. Can anyone help me? Please?

Thanks.
- Oli.

Hello.

That much depend on the machine you use.

Generally, what you describe is an envelope (VCA, ADSR, or similar names) in which the "attack" time is high.

Example: Add an arguru synth, and change the "VCA Attack" to 3000 milliseconds or more.
You'll hear that the volume increases during those three seconds, and after that, it stays at that volume.

In general, with virtual synthesis, one of the first things to learn is in using the envelopes, because that's how you change the sound.

If you need to do a longer ramp, or you want to control how it does it, the idea of interpolating the command is correct, but probably you used the wrong command.

Again, with arguru synth, you can use the 0Cxx command to control the volume of the playing note, so you would do something like this:

A-4 .. 00 0C00
... .. 00 0C10
... .. 00 0C20
... .. 00 0C30
... .. 00 0C40
... .. 00 0C50
... .. 00 0C60

(Note: Change the VCA Sustain to something like -6dB so that the note doesn't stop until you send a noteoff or stop playback.)

In some synths, changing a parameter with the twk command is not immediate, but generally, using twk is the correct idea.

Thanks a lot!

I hoped there was an option to affect the sound at per-track-level but I understand that it's more straightforward to change the generator-settings.

Extensive answers like yours show me that PSYCLE was the right program to choose.

I am developing a software using MATLAB for sound frequency analysis .This shared information must be useful for me.I am trying to analysis the frequency based upon sound distance.

to get smooth volume dynamics, you can mess up with each machine as JAZ suggest but this is not "crossplatform way", i.e. to make volume automation you have to aotomate each generator at same time.

so, in situation when you need to automate volume of 5 generators at the same time, you're diving to hell.

In previous releases of Psycle, there was a GuidoVolume effect - really simple effect with one control - the volume. But this effect can make your life better. Just connect the machines outputs to the GuidoVolume->Master and control the all stuff through one automation track! Simple, Smooth and Effective.

Still can't figure out why Develepores removed that brilliant effect from modern releases of Psycle...

you can use "ayeternal Gainer" in it's place.

As for the Guido Volume effect: it doesn't exist in the source tree, and it appears that it hasn't for some time. Psycle is designed to have binary-compatible plugins across releases, so it should still work if you have a copy but there is no guarantee that it will continue to do so.

yes, "ayeternal Gainer" can be used but it not so good as guidoVolume. "ayeternal Gainer" can amplify up to 54db. it's too huge range, when you need only volume automation from "silence" to "original level".
I'm going to find guidovolume, but not sure if it will work on psycle 64bit.
