| Psycle 1.8.8 RC1 bug reports | |
Once again, thanks to [JAZ] and Bohan for their great job on Psycle.
I've just downloaded this brand new release candidate, and I must to inform (I'm so sorry) about some issues I've seen:
1) My MIDI input device is listed in the settings window, but it's not stored. Psycle always show as input MIDI device "None". So I can't use my MIDI keyboard to play notes. I'd had no problems with psycle 1.8.8 beta3
2) There're some issues drawing the Psycle Master and Minimixer. When I open this window, the status bar (?) background is not drawn correctly. One screenshot is better than 1000 words.
The downloaded pack is the 32-bit release. I'm (still) in Windows XP SP2.

Hello Angelus.
Thanks for your comments, and don't worry.
I've precisely released this as "RC1" because i expected that (small) problems could appear. And users are good at that
About your problem with MIDI. In my case, it is saving the setting, but I am using a virtual lookback cable right now. (Don't have my keyb here).
Said that, I remember that Psycle only checks for the presense of midi hardware on lauch, so if you enabled your keyboard (connected USB, powered up) after opening Psycle, that could happen.
Otherwise, I am unsure on what is happening, and I would like you to check if the setting gets saved to registry and with which value. ( HK_CURRENT_USER/software/psycle/psycledelics/configuration. key : "MidiInputDriver" ). Basically, it is an index.
The second bug, the problem with the master graphics, I guess I left some transparency or something enabled that works differently depending on OS. I had to make some changes because I was getting flickering.
I will take a look.

About the MIDI input issue, I've checked the registry key and it reports 0 as its value. I've configured Psycle to save settings in a configuration file (Psycle.ini) with same results (MidiInputDriver=0). I've turned on my MIDI keyb before starting Psycle and it didn't still work. But I've checked it again in 1.8.8 beta3 release and keyboard works fine. I must to say that my MIDI keyboard is connected to the MIDI input of my soundcard (it has an external module, no USB).
Thanks in advance.

Ooops! I've forgotten to comment on two issues more in two machines:
The first one is related to Arguru Reverb. The input signal is only from left channel (not from both left and right channels). No signal is processed if it comes only from the right channel. The output wet signal is a mono reverb (not stereo). I've checked the previous version of Arguru Reverb (dated 3/11/2009) in this RC and it works fine with a stereo output.
The second one is related to bypass and mute of the mixer internal machine. They simply don't have any effect.

Not sure if this is a bug or I'm doing something wrong but I can't get multichannel record to work ( from regular PC keyboard, have not tried with midi yet ).
After arming the tracks I want to record to, and setting record mode it will not record notes I'm inputting. With FT2 record mode set in the preferences it will record to just one track, but only the one containing the cursor, and not to the armed tracks.
thanks though - generally this build is working a LOT better than the betas on my system cant wait for final

This is actually not a bug, but an old problem, though with the new skin (which I like btw) this got somewhat worse. I'm shortsighted, so I use system fonts sized at 125% which results in Psycle's main mixer looking like this

Any chance to mend this?: I understand this is rather a Win problem, than a Psycle's problem, but considering all other contraptions look OK, could smth be done?

Hello kvaksha.
I know about this, and have looked a bit about the problem and solutions when planning this new release.
Concretely, Windows 7 has more features that aim at improving this, and there's an increasing notion that users need this (be either because of the user being shortsighted, or the screen being small, like in small laptops/netbooks)
In Psycle, there are a few windows where this problem appears:
* Interpolate curve (almost ok)
* Sampulse Amplitudes (almost ok)
* Visual tab of settings (smaller graph, no effect on usability)
* vu-meter on the main screen (smaller graph, but no effect on usability)
* the about window (smaller image, but no effect on usability)
* the amplitude envelopes of the sampler (smaller graph, but no effect on usability)
* Wire dialog (smaller graph, but no effect on usability)
* render as wav (some text gets cut)
* and the master mixer (smaller graphic, effect on usability because of the sliders, but still usable)
(Pattern font size is adjustable, so i don't count that as an error)
There are two types of problems, an image not being resized, and graphics being drawn on the screen without checking the size available.
The only one really affecting usability right now is the master mixer, so it is the first I should recheck.
Last time i checked, I didn't find an auto-resize for graphics, but maybe i wasn't searching correctly.
About the graphs, since there are some that almost work (interpolate curve on pattern window, envelopes and wave graphics on sampulse and wave editor), it is to be expected that the rest could do as well.
Aside of that, there are also some elements that don't get resized, like the toolbar and some texts.
Finally, some windows are on the edge of being usable at 1280x800 screen resolution using 125% font size (But even windows itself says that some of its elements will get cut at this resolution).
So I can tell you that I will have a look, but I cannot guarantee I will be able to fix it.

I'm must to add that the track names are not saved. There's no name track when I open a file in which has been setup a name for each track.
Another issue is related to legasynth-303 generator: It's not shown the value on "Fine" parameter in the GUI view. It just shows 0 as value and a minus if it's setup to the left.

@Angelus: Arg!!! Those are two unexpected bugs.
The track names were working at some point (I do have a .psy that loads tracknames), but I've verified that it is not saving them with the current version.
As for the fine in legasynth, I copied an incorrect portion of code to do the formatting of that value. Thanks for reporting.
Btw: About that problem you told me of that song, I would need the .psy. Also, i don't seem to have problems with dw_eq, but again, it could be incompatibilities with older versions that i haven't tested.
Edit: Turns out the problem is in the loading of names (I changed the placement of where i write track names, and my "example" song had it still on the old place, that's why it worked).
So in other words, if saved once with the names, the names will get loaded by the fixed Psycle. If it has been loaded and saved again, it won't have the names (because it didn't load them back).

Looks like I found a real bug now, at least on my system (Win7 home, QuadCore Intel). Right-click menu of block operations (block cut, copy etc) doesn't work here, except for block delete. However, main menu (upper) works fine, as well ac hotkeys (ctrlX, ctrlC, ctrlV etc)

The cut/copy/paste problem is related to a renaming of some constants I made, and now the actions of those three menu entries no longer map to the function they should.
The change was done in an effort to keep names more uniformly and I've already fixed so it will be working in the release version.
I hope it is not a big problem, since the hotkeys work and one can also drag&drop with the mouse.

I have an updated .exe file to copy over an existing 32bits (x86) 1.8.8 RC1.
I would like some feedback about it before I plan the official release.
This build has these changes over RC1:
+ New default option to show note A4 in patterns as standard A4 (440Hz). Unchecking it keeps the old A5 = 440Hz.
+ add a new track on cursor position for the current pattern or all patterns.
+ add a machine before or after another machine. Also option to add a machine in the middle of an existing wire.
+ deleting an effect with connected wires can keep neighbours connected now.
* Application is a bit more DPI aware now. (Just behaving a bit better at 125% increase. It probably will never be fully DPI aware).
* Scrolling in pattern view made slower.
* Vumeter in main view made RMS. Stereo vu in Master window.
* Dropped option of graphics double buffering. Now always enabled.
! Rewiring of mixer sends/returns would not work sometimes.
! Prevent crash on savewav dialog if path does not exist
! RC1 bugfixes (recent menu was not keeping the correct entries. Feature of saving pattern track names was not reading them back, Mixer can be muted and bypassed again).

I still need to do some changes with the plugins.
Also note that blitz and gamefx will have two versions. Current songs will load the old one, for compatibility reasons. If you've got one made with the new plugin, you'll have to replace it manually. I belive this is the better aproach, since both versions are not compatible.

That's what I always liked about AudioMulch and dreamt of having in Psycle someday! Thx for this new feature, did a quick test, looks like all systems go fine.

Thanks a lot [JAZ] for this update. All the new features seem to work fine for me.
I've realized that in the song bar, the -10 button ( [<<] ) of the Tempo selector doesn't fit with the system theme. It is shown as the "old days". The others (-1, +1 and +10) are shown correctly.
I don't know if you have checked the input MIDI issue I have reported previously, but it's still there (I can't play notes with my MIDI keyb). The input device is recognized by Psycle (ES MIDI SB Audigy 4 [EC00]) but it's always set to "None".

Hiya, [Jaz]. As a new user, I'd first like to say thanks for such a lovely program. I do have a few bugs to chip in as well, though.
I'm running 1.8.8 RC1 on Win7 Home 64, with Psycle full install, the default out-of-box configuration, and no additional plugins of any sort.
The first bug is quite a minor inconvenience, and regards the Machine View. The View does not seem to have scrollbar capability. This is only an issue if I am using Psycle in a smallish window. My screen rez is 1920x1080, so when the master is originally drawn it is at (949,547)-(1097,594). If I fail to move the master, and build my machines around it, they disappear off the edge of the window as I scale it down (as a n00b, I need some screen real-estate for the tutorial and whatnot). Since there are no scrollbars, I cannot go "find" my machines, so I need to move them to the top left corner of the View in order to be able to interact with them via mouse.
The second bug is a crash. This crash occurs when using "Undo." The program appears to crash after multiple (as few as 2, but sometimes more) Undos, whether by keystroke or menu-click. Whether program crashes does not seem to be correlated to active View. Crash results in two Win7 Appcrash reports, the second (for ntdll.dll) arising after the first (for psycle.exe) is closed, followed by process ending. The bug is replicable, even consistent to the point that I have had to give up on using Undo, so if you'd like any additional information, such as the contents of the Appcrash reports, please let me know.

One additional note: I was able to force a crash by putting notes into the Pattern View of a new file and Undoing, even without any machines added.
