sound conversion? | |
Essentially what I'm going for is to change the sound of a recorded keyboard composition.
I don't know what all is possible with this or other software, but I gather that some of my options are the following:
1. buy sheet music, learn to read it, learn to translate that into something else like MIDI...
2. buy sheet music, get a program that reads a scan of it and translates it into something else like MIDI...
3. get a progam that translates and audio recording into something else like MIDI... (I tried this with freeware and it turned out to sound hardly recognizable)
4. get a program that can change the sound of an audio recording without translating it into another format
I guess those are in order from most to least time consuming, even though I'd learn more by doing it the hard way.
I've managed to load a sample WAV into Psycle, but don't have any insight on what can be done from there, apart from using the WAV editor which doesn't seem to tweak the way it sounds.

There is no real way to change stuff like what instrument it is sounding like. You could likely make it sound like a synth by passing it through a couple of filters though. I would recommend playing it back yourself with a program that records midi. Then you can play it back with any sound you want. If you lack the ability to play it (it is dificult or whatever) I would recommend sequencing it, for the same reason. Sequencing gives results that sound less like a person played it though (go figure) Oh, and audio > MIDI programs universally suck.

Wave manipulation? | |
Salut!
For option 1,2,3, you will learn something but maybe it is not what you want at the end. If yes, to replay this result with differents sounds font.
What do you want to transform with your sound because it is not clear.
I can give a proposition for the last one.
You will learn nothing like the midi solution bur it will be fun.
Helios from Tobybear Productions
is a kind of sampler to input your wave and you can transform it with this VST first and add Effects with Psycle plugins if you want more.
The sampler inside Psycle can be an other way with effect after.

It looks like the site distributing Helios is offline. Is that a stand-alone application, or does it augment some other interface?
I wonder how would I use Psycle plugins or filters on a WAVE, as it seemed to have been mentioned...
Anyway, I have a recording of a harpsichord solo that I'd like to modify. Otherwise I may have to put the idea off until I have time to learn to read music.

I would recommend you to read the upwego tutorial in the docs section of this site.
That, and getting some .psy files from the songs section.
I have to admit that I don't know what you want to do. Maybe an audio editor, like Audacity is what you are looking for. And if you simply want to change an existing song, forget about it.
I've read a couple of times a sentence that says: "Unmixing a song is like uncooking an egg".

To me, it sounds like he wants to convert a .wav/mp3 (or whatever) in something editable to alter instruments.
Well, while this is possible in some ways (mostly into midi), it will require a clean record of.. well, lets say, a piano, without any effects. This "may" lead into some decent result.
Ive been fiddeling around with stuff like this few years ago, but cant remember any programm anymore.
Your best bet probably is, to recognize the notes and re-track it in either Psycle or any other programm of your choice.
But altering/changing sound of a wav, is (to my knowledge) impossible. Good luck tho.
Cheers!

I think you all understand what I want to do, but not necessarily why. I'm just trying to establish how. That was enough information though, thanks.

Oups!
Tobybear Productions is offline!
I hope he will be back soon because this is a very good VST creator!
