| Using the Psycle native plugins | |
quote: Original by The_Brainwashed
But would be interesting to have a thread to discuss some native plugins usage, since they lack a deeper explanation. This way we could improve the Psycle experience.
Starting a thread to do the above... :-P

I find that the plugins are very versitile, though many are quite daunting to people who don't know synths well. (really, pooplog FM lab is almost too much for the ui to make sense) Also, some of them are very hard to control like GameFX. I think these two in particular need to be documented in some way, for although they are excedingly powerful many have no idea how to use them.
I really hope to one day understand pooplog lab.
I have given up on gameFX though.
(did I just miss the point of the thread?)

shadowbane: no, you don't. It's interesting to the devs to know about psyclers difficulties. That's why I sugested this kind of discussion. I could figure out some plugins usage, but I must confess I have great difficulties with them.
To me, there's 2 main problems:
1 - The lack of documentation. Sure, it's funny to mess around with the knobs, but a brief explanation of each fx and how to use them should be included in Psycle bundle.
2 - The LACK OF PRESETS. This is really a miss. The knob messing could be much more understandable if we had a great amount of presets for the synths, at least.
At this moment, I use only some basic FX like Goaslicer, Wah Wah, Arguru Compressor (nice compressor, but lacks an output gain knob), Arguru Cross Delay (rarely change the default setting), Gainer, 2-pass filter and Arguru Synth. But I can't explain their use in a technical manner, since I lack that knowledge.
Arguru Reverb don't work for me. It crashes Psycle all the time.

There's a sub-section on the 'Files' page where there are some (very old) presets.
I added that to collect presets for native plugins (people would send me the files and i uploaded them) but, as you can see it was not a success, sadly.
One point to add : the presets system in Psycle really doesn't help for sharing banks or patches...

a cool idea for patches would be to put a user/built in selector by the vst drop-down list, and let it be used for the built in plugins as well. If that was added I would help to author some patches for the default set.

I have some (very) basic patches I could share. If there were a preset manager tool in order to merge the presets in one file, it would be very cool.

I think the preset thing saves all of them at once upon export...
never tried it though

I haven't used the Psycle native generators much lately, as only songs I've made have been for sdcompo, so I've only been using the Sampler pretty much.
I'm not knowledgeable enough to write an authoritative piece of documentation for any of them. But instead of waiting for someone else to write some docs, why don't we just document our own experiences on the wiki or in the forums? These can evolve over time with contributions from others.
By far the best way to get an expert to fix something is to post something incorrect which they can't stand to see go uncorrected
