But you say "on close"... you mean the parameters window, or deleting the machine? Maybe i should start looking at a different place...

Yeah! I open up the synth, connect it to the master (or whatever compressor, EQ, etc.) and play a lot with the controls and presets. Nothing wrong so far, and the system is very stable overall.

The problem occurs just when I delete a connection or delete the synth from the machine view. (right click -> 'delete machine')

But this RC2 is rocksolid!!

I can't change MIDI channels - every time i hit a key, it changes back to channel 1... It's kinda pain in the ass when working with Edirol plugins. Another thing with Edirol - Psycle doesn't save the state of these plugins. When I load a tune, they're always back to the original settings.

Great job with VST support. Those Psycle-killer plugins like Absynth 3 work sweet now

Edit: just noticed that the modulation/pitch bend wheels on my keyboard also don't work.

The Keyword is the program number.

Usually, when a VST is saved, what is saved is the state of the plugin (i.e. all settings for all programs).

But a separate thing saved is the program index. This indicates which program do you have selected.

Older plugins rely on the host to save the individual data, but newer ones all save its state. But these two things can happen:

they restore the program index.
they don't.

If it's the first case, everything is right and we're on the rocks.
If it is the second, well, we saved it in the .psy file, so we restore it. Now, there are two behaviours for plugins:

Those that just change the program to the one indicate.
Those that RESTORE the program to that indicated.

The ones that restore it, are actually changing the settings saved, to their defaults. Scorpion VSTi does this. (And it does NOT save the program index)

Anyway, setting the program index has yet another problem... It is a 8byte value, and Synth1 has more than 1000 presets (yup, that sucks as you can guess).

I might try a build that simply doesn't set the program index to the plugins that save their data, but you can guess what can happen.

About the modulation and pitch wheel, you should use the option "send raw MIDI mcm command" In Configuration-Settings, MIDI Controllers page. That will bypass the host and send them directly to the plugins.
(The way midi controllers are implemented in Psycle is scheduled for modification)

AFAIK, Orchestral doesn't save settings in any host.
When i remember right, you have to save EVERYTHING manually.

Basic stuff like Performance, Chorus, Reverb settings can be saved under the "System" button. On the same place, you need to reload everything, when you load up the psy.

But when you have changed anything on the instruments (tone etc) you have to save every single one.

It's a pain and i wonder why Edirol never made an update to make saving easier.
But unfortunately, that`s how it goes for now.

Thanks, it did the job. Any chances to have those MIDI channels fixed in the next release? Because of this I'm still stuck with the previous version.

Little bug: if you're working on a, say, 128bpm song, and start a new project, the bpm keep displaying 128, but it's 125 (default). It's appears only when you move the bpm counter up/down, since the counter changes to 124 or 126.

Also, can we expect the pattern name bug to be fixed?

thanks Brainwashed. seen and fixed (that's because the bpm of the player engine was not changed after song new, and instead was done at pressing play, or manually changing bpm/tpb)

Thanks too, [JAZ]. Can't wait for the final version.

Another problem: I don't use the built in wav editor too much, but today I was working with a wav file inside Psycle, and it gaves me this error message:

http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/606/bugob3.png

It's the first time I have this problem, but I don't use this wav editor too much.

Mmmm... the screenshot is quite revealing. The zoom variable might be incorrect, the image seems at 100% zoom, and it allowed to scroll into a non-valid sample zone (that's that peak near the end).

In fact, i had pending the revision of those variables, because i am sure there are some inconsistencies, but should be just up to one sample, not as much as that.

The midi, prams and samples drop lists are all jumpy and always go back to 8 on my computer. I can't select in them.

Edit: I think this is somehow caused by my MIDI keyboard. I started it after my MIDI support crashed and this no longer happened

Yes. it is related to MIDI, and i will have to revert back to how it was with 1.8.2

The feature, once implemented correctly (i.e. not right now), is that you can control psycle with several external midi keyboards/controllers, and psycle would record the correct midi channel for those, instead of assuming always channel 1.

Sounds cool, can't wait for it to be done. This will open up all kinds of possibilities for midi editor use.

I tried to install the new version of PSYCLE the SSE 2( luckily on another PC to not rot my old style PSYCLE ) and nothing works like I want......Just as well I did not discover PSYCLE with this new release, because I will have never been fan of it....So right now I stick to my OLD PSYCLE.....the new one did not yet convince me ( I have Win XP SP2....) worse I would have been put off PSYCLE for good with this new RELEASE....nothing works as fine as with the old version here......even the GENERATORS are not there, and if they are they freeze frame the PC for no reasons, with the old one, only synthedit freezes the frame......but I told you I am useless with a PC, if the thing does not install itself all together without efforts on my side, I will not be able to use it, not only me but millions of people too, worses than me with a PC....

That is my point of view...

What you've described is (half) the reason why Apple only sells OS X for Apple hardware: configurations.

I have even tried installing psycle in wine (linux), without a single hitch, and the generators were there, they didn't have a crash whatsoever and since i also installed the vST's, i could listen to the demo songs without any problem (aside of one that has to do with one of the VST plugins, but doesn't matter in this thread).

In other words

I have no idea what you did, or why it went so bad for you, but take for granted that's not the first-time experience.

I think this tip can be useful for the problems others experienced with some vstis : each time i tried to save a song using FM8 with a patch loadedn not the default one), Psycle crashed.

So i found this trick : use a free beta of Phrazor (you can find it here) as a vst and load FM8 in it. The song is then saved perfectly.
This tip doesn't work when trying with eXT.

Ok, It appears that the latest version has problems saving/loading the connections coming from certain VST machines. The ones I have experienced this with are (you guessed it) Synthedit plugins including all the DSK ones.
This isn't a huge issue, but it gets annoying after a while.

Maybe you can try the tip i just mentionned, as a workaround until it is fixed
