NOTE RANDOMIZER ?        Go on top to this Page

I think what would be cool, is to have a note randomizer attached to one of the menus maybe. After you enter your notes in the pattern editor, you would then select your notes and click on the randomizer, which would then re-arrange the order of the notes into random positions.

What do you think ?

I am surprised that no-one is interested.

This idea has even been adopted by EnergyXT !!

Do I have to suffer XT before anyone becomes interested in the psycle community ?

Imagine the creative potential a concept like this could unleash. The random feature is one reason why I like the pyscle native interface so much. You can create synth patches that you never dreamed of just by using the 'Random parameters' function. Imagine using something like this to change the order of your notes ?

i think you've overdone the smilies

and yes it would be a nice feature i guess

but i wouldn't use it for the simple reason that i usually come up with my melodies separate from the computer anyway - i improvise, then put the melody into the computer, then add harmonies etc....no real room for randomisation for me (no need either )

Randomization, and REVERSE BLOCK! And also randomize using only notes in block, randomize by shuffling chunks in a block... These would be great.

And also create fractal patterns... Mm Maybe fill block with a fractal melody?

fiasko, ksn and Taika-Kim I wonder how difficult something like this would be to program ? Hopefully the developers can become excited by this idea. I think it has awesome potential . This could take psycle to a new level of creativity !!

Good Idea. (The Revers block will be great. Expecially for automation [i would to made a fade in and a fade out for the cutoff]). What version will have this feature?

If you want a Note Randomizer, why not take it to the next level?

Rather than entering notes and having the function scramble them up, why not come up with a tool that lets the machine craft a pseudo-random pattern (or riff) on its own?

I dabbled with this idea years ago (back in the Amiga days), but didn't get very far into implementing it.

Try this concept for a randomizer:
* Pick from a number of contraints, such as notes in a specific key (or keys), maximum step size (to limit multi-octave jumps), and so on.
* Pick an instrument to use.
* Pick the number of rows for the randomizer to populate.
* Pick an note duration range (eight notes only, whole notes only, etc)

The tool will generate a pseudo-random pattern based on your specs. From there, of course, you could fiddle with it and only keep the "good parts". Really, this is the rough equivalent of letting someone else noodle on a keyboard, with some musical training.

Like I said, I had the basic idea a long time ago, and I think it would be fun to experiment with. And no, I don't have enough current programming experience to implement this myself. So this idea is completely fair game for any takers.

Dragyn.

i like everything linked to randomization
for tweaking the synths or for notes and patterns.
it's often a very good source of inspiration !
