Can anybody tell me in detail how the various knobs change the sound?

No.

You'll have to learn by yourself. You CAN find some advice by searching for things like "basics of substractive synthesis", "introduction to synthesis" etc on google.

Terms        Go on top to this Page

The reason I ask is that I am new to terms like "phaser" and "flanger"

Also, what does the "Auto Stop all machines" button do?

phasing is processing audio with an all-pass filter that has non-linear frequency response (it changes phases of different frequencies) and mixing it back with dry sound

there can be one or more filters

flanging is like phasing with an all-pass filter that has a linear frequency response

you will pretty soon know what each machine does aurally

if you want to know more about some term, google for it

"Autostop all machines" (which should be called "stop all silent machines"), is just an option which helps reduce the CPU usage of Psycle.

What it does is, when it detects that an effect receives no sound, it makes it stop (do nothing).

This is ok for effects like filters, gainers or anything which does not have a buffer, or other LFO mechanism ( LFO = slow oscillator), because then, those are stopped, not doing the full effect.

This is the reason why it is an option and not an "always-on" feature.
