Not a bad idea. Using each different note as a sample...Yeah, I guess it'd take a little bit longer, but it's not like I wouldn't have time. It'd get rid of the extra space wasted on silence. I'll try it out. Good suggestion.

avoiding loops seems less like cheating to me....i think drum/synth loops are evil!!...although if you make the loop yourself that's a different story

I think a .txt explaining the samples would be nice. I respect: "I sampled my cat and then vocoded it with a sound of a hoover to get this really coooool lead sound" than: "mm this is shome H07 Sh17 I found on Skippy's Noizebox vol.235!1!!"
Not that the song would be any worse necessarily, but in compos like this I like to also appreciate the craftmanship...
And why is there nothing in the new about this? (hmm, the Psycle news, altough I wouldn't mind Reuters and CNN covering this too...)

ksn is reaaaally busy lately. that's the reason.
I can put news if we consider this compo kind of official now.
I'd add a link to the wiki page and the thread about it.
What do u say?

That's kind of funny. I like to steal samples from computer game program files. The 'Rogue Spear' series has had some good ones. I've also sampled things like me throwing a big heavy chain necklace from hand to hand and used it in a trance song. So I wonder how I apply to that one.
Anyway, the song I was talking about a few days ago isn't going to happen. It's impossible to get it down to size without ruining it (further). So I now have a third version that I'll probably post tomorrow, with nothing to do with the compo.
Of course, I've been working on something else for it. Not that it would end up being any type of competition, of course, merely for fun/the heck of it. I guess that's the point of all this, after all.

Hmm, I'm going at about 40mb now %-) So this tune won't be for the compo. (I got carried away with some cool ethnic sample libraries...)
Well. Gotta finish this one quick and have another go...

I could put it on my geocities (only works as a zip file though...) email it to me , if u want.
As to MfM, I didn't get anywhere with what I was doing, so I've just thrown everything out and started again with an a lot less ambitious project (trashy but fun )... I don't think I need more time (or rather, more time won't help much either)...
I do like yours by the way

Well, I'm going to do a compo tune, but the one I started was overblown to +-50mb so I'll have to start another one...
Contrary to my usual habits I have 2 other tunes just started , but those use some VST... But I'm going to do a 3rd tune maybe just for the compo...
