Probably not what you were thinking, but this does exist to some degree, in the Guitar world... It's called a Talkbox.... It was made famous by Peter Frampton in the 70's.... It basically modulates the guitar with the words you are saying, and you end up having a guitar that talks... I'm sure you could run a keyboard synth through one of these... but I'm assuming you want voice-Pitch control, which you don't get with a talkbox.

Antares Kantos does good resynthesis (=sing a cool melody and then just play it with some nice lead synth for example), and there are more... Koyote Alien Lead does this and and... There is a frequency follower module available for Synthedit, so you should be able to build your own too quite easily if you know some synth design.

Hmm. So basically what we need is a mp3 player with rec option that we can carry around with us, sing the melodies that pop into our head and then convert them into melodies at home again...
Altough it would be quite embarassing to start singing in buses etc ;D

So maybe I'll look into notewriting instead, afterall.

when i have ideas, sometimes, if i can get to my piano and have my MD recorder with me, i use my dad's old tape recorder mic, and stick it inside the piano, and record onto MD....can be very useful....perhaps just one of those little lecture tape recorders i.e. the tiny ones would be useful....coz the sound quality isn't gonna matter too much, as long as you can get the pitches, right??

I would be glad to submit a song stub. I do use an "Interesting" way of playing guitar samples though, which people who don't play guitar would hate...

Would the song stub need to be native only?

Well, that depends on what type the unfinished songs are. I would prefer no limitations, so if your song is native only, it's okay.

As well, what kind of modifications would you allow? Additions, Mixing, Pattern Order, Instrumentation, or none at all?

I don't really care, as long as there's a certain amount of the original left (even if it's only a drum). But I think this should be polled on (but not now *yawns*). Anyway, I've thought about asking some people over at ModPlug Central whether they'd be interested. Well, maybe...

Well, I asked at MPC. Now I'm waiting for a reaction.

Well, I got some response. Not so good, but there was a certain interest. The big question was whether only Psycle were allowed.

So: does anybody else want this to be the next compo theme?

I would be interested!

What we could do is:
Everybody does, say, 1 minute of music, then the tracks are submitted, shuffled and given back to musicians to finish.

Even better would be if the beginnig minute wouldn't be allowed to be changed so people would have to try catch the mood the original composer was trying to achieve and then continue from that...

I agree. I think after we find out who wants to participate, I or someone else shuffles the names and sorts them from 1. to last, and a second person shuffles the songs (or the names again, since it doesn't matter) and we then connect name 1 with song/name2 1, etc..

I'm interested, but I'm away from Home right now (I'm using an internet cafe). I should be back for Septebmber... The Trade-a-Song is a great idea.... The only problem is, if you can't finish your receved song, your donator doesn't get the satisfaction of hearing a finished piece.

Perhaps unfinished pieces can be included in a free-for-all finishing compo to follow...

I think the free-for-all idea is the best. That way no one is hooked up with a style or a compo that they can't stand. It would also be less intimidating for a noobie to participate.
