Samples! Pitch is a Bitch! | |
Hello!
To make a short story long...
Ya' all know, that when importing wav samples and then enter a note that is "higher" ...the pitch gets raised but so does the speed of the sample, so you if you started out with a sample that lasted 10 seconds it only is 3 seconds long if you use higher notes.
However... is there a VST Plugin or some other stuff I can use, to pitch the sample instead of "the old way"?
The annoying this about this it that I have a program I make my basses in. This program does not exist as a VST, so I have to convert all the notes I want in my song to wav first and THEN import them.
It's as close to hell as you can get!
What can I do?!?!?!
Thankz!

Shiny-fx had Spectral Monkeyage and Phazvoc which could do Pitch shifting. But unfortunately their site is now one of those stupid ad sites.
Maybe a google search could reveal them (anyone please put a link up here, I want my Spectral Monkeyage back )

Yeah, Spectral Monkeyage is great! All links to it seem gone - although I have both the stereo & mono versions. I could e-mail them (they're freeware), if anybody needs them.
Otherwise, try Shivashifta or Madshifta from Tobybear:

They do the trick, although the monkey-thing sounds better in my ears. Pitch shifting does decrease the soundquality anyway, so what I usually do is record many octaves (C2-C3-C4 etc.) from my (hardware) synth to one sample in one go, and then just load & cut the ones I need with the wave-editor in Psycle. Having a sample for each note sounds like hell to me... but that's probably what pro's have.

I have a link to Spectral Monkeyage on my Kääpiösaaren Salaisuuks-page in the songs section
Hmm tweaking the VST to do melodies sounds like hell. A sampler VST that automatically does that would be interesting...
Steinberg Ultravoice does the best realtime Pitch Shifting of single instruments I've ever heard, but IIRC it crashes Psycle.

Of non-realtime software, I think Prosoniq Soundfactory still remains to be beaten. It can do things that are just unbelievable!
