hello gang,
Thanks for the post Rhino, glad you like my entry! :-) My proc is an Athlon XP 2400+ (2 ghz). The song peaks at ~40% cpu usage. What proc have you?
Good turn out for his compo eh? Enough tunes to make an album!
Cheers
Alk
I've got a rather paltry PIII 700! But you're tune works great on my computer at work (an Athlon 1700 - soon to be a P4 2.8 - woohoo!)
Good turn out of tunes, definitely. Perhaps we should have an 'anything goes' compo next! Or perhaps an even more hardcore compo where you're only allowed to use 1 native machine of your choice! Or am I just being silly now?

That's what I have been thinking about, too!
I thought about having a sampling compo with samples and FX (VST too, there's so much good material to use for a compo like this!) only.
And the samples would have to be sampled by the participants of course. And would have to be NOT synthesised...
So, anybody in for the "Psycle music concrète"-compo?-)

Yes, that's a very good idea, but how to make it possible with this BBS system (oh, the days when _that_ abbreviation really meant something...) and keep it also simple enough for many people to bother to vote?

it is not possible now of course (as already explained for some previous compo).
alk, it is still not possbile, not because i don't want to but because it is one of the limitations of the actual site system (and there are a lot you know)...
so people have to choose one song.
and as kim said, it's not a bad thing either, because things are kept simple.

vst's can be an arse though, there are plenty of things one can do with the native effects, i don't see why vst's would need to be included...

I think not, i have made a few tunes with only one kind of generator used several times and as few effects as possible .... the most beautiful used two asynth2f and one delay

anybody else having a problem with KarLKoX' Sadness? I get an error saying me it replaces the native plugin vsfastverb.dll with a dummy.
i have even installed the latest psycle release (again) to get the plugin ...no success...
is this my fault or the one of karl? and how could people vote with this problem?

No problems with Sadness, but Dilvie's entry is crashing Psycle for me... Haven't re-booted to see if it's something resident in memory botching it.... Everything else so far is working.
I've also downloaded the OGG of Dilvie's entry just in case...
I'll also let you know if I have any other issues in this thread.

Mmmm... vfastverb.dll is include in 1.7.4 (or, at least, it should). It was created months before, but not included because of its simplicity (dalay delay can recreate it), but still, the interface (knobs) is (are) more intuitive.
If you can confirm that it is missing in the installation, please, inform us.

i have a problem here too with this (great) song, but it's different from yours. i can render 4m40s of it, and then psycle crashes. i don't know what would be the full length of it.

well, i can imagine that if you want to vote for your own tune, then you would also like to express your opinion on other people's songs ;p

I hope nobody is cheap enough to vote for themselves :)
VST FX are needed, because there's 0 spectral effects available at the moment in native form. Convolution, vocoders etc are too great to be missed in a compo like this
:)
And there's not anykind of proper dynamic plugins except for Arguru's simple compressor, and neither an EQ that actually works.
And all kinds of special FX like geometer etc just cry to be used on sample material...
It's not so much an issue with using synths, but to really bring out the creative potential with samples, I would like to be able to use VST too...

well the plugin obviously IS missing, since i have redownloaded and reinstalled psycle installer and it is still not there.
about voting for oneself:
shame on who does it.... if it's just for pushing the points
but i think it's ok if you are really convinced your song is the best of them all... heh but i doubt that, i can't stand to hear mine anymore... maybe again in a few weeks
opinion about songs:
i don't want to spoil my decision... especially since i haven't heard sadness correctly yet... but i am surprised by the current distribution of votes, mainly because almost all the tunes which i thought they weren't too good got at least one vote o_O"
oh well

one more thing. i have noticed that songs played with the winamp2 plugin sound different than when played with psycle itself, for my song it's a pooplog fm lab which has a totally different noise sound.
so i want to beg you to listen to it in psycle directly.
i for my part have rendered them all to wave and removed them one by one from a winamp playlist to get to my temporary result.
