suggestions, as usual :)

hello.

my personal coined-out list of "wonderful" things.

- more sampler commands. my personal most-sought on the list are retrigger and various slides.

- volume and panning columns - i heard they are to be in 1.7. hope so. basic automation (there were hell lots of discussion here - involving how to do it with nearly no gui changes) would come handy.

- more and more keyboard shortcuts. personally, as a long-time scream tracker / impulse tracker user, i totally dislike patter order shifting. without breaking the current set of keys and methods, it could be easily implemented as it is in IT2, for example - while listening, pressing Gray Plus skips current pattern to the next, Gray Minus takes you to the last pattern played, Shift Gray Plus and Shift Gray minus takes you 4 patterns forward/backward from current - VERY handy if you're used to it, and no mouse clicks involved (i'm a pro-keyboardist buddy - "when we enter notes with keys, why mouse ?"). the same thing is with entering pattern numbers into order list. why mouse ? why not keyboard ? again, we could preserve the present behavior, but implement another one.

- vst engine issues. resizable windows for vst plugins. less cumbersome interface for vst plugins (right window, i mean. need some help with layout/graphics ? vst "like-in-buzz" grouping into directories. support for vsts with variable parameters (reaktor, tassman). more convenient parameter tweaking (if we'll come to the actual need of implementing less cumbersome interface for vsts, i surely would go into details). .fxb loading/saving.

- toolbar-like wave editor (+ keyboad shortcuts for all commands - it's ESSENTIAL). need some graphics ?

- sample browser fixes. this was previously discussed here. default windows "open" window is totally unusable. can't say something for FT2, for example, never used it that much, but the sample browser in ST3/IT2 was awesome, fast and very handy.

that's, generally, it.

I agree with sampler commands. There should be more. Maybe even both, logarithmic and linear slides.

I'm not sure if volume and panning columns are that useful.
1) They are taking space; less channels can be put in a window
2) You can use many pattern commands for the same channel if the "twc" command is coming (read todo.txt)
3) For example, if distortion is used, the volume command is kinda useless, because you should tweak distortion effect's volume, not generator's volume.

Keyboard shortcuts might be useful. What are those "grey" keys? The ones near the numpad?

I'm waiting for a better sample browser, too. The one in modplug is nice also (is it called Sample Tree or something)!

One addition
While playing, Psycle should always check first if any tweak or global pattern commands exist, before playing notes on that row.

Now I have to use channels 0-3 for tweakings because I can never know if I'm gonna tweak any machines, and I don't like it when the tweak command affects AFTER the note is played (it should do it BEFORE)

Did someone get my point?

yep, I guess I got it

How tweaking is done is probably what is dislike the most in psycle... I almost never use it unless I really need it... that's sad to say since I miss many interesting features...

Beside Psycle I'm also a NoiseTrekker 3 user. I like it a lot and there are some nice ideas. One of them is when you slide a parameter clicking with right button, the effect and value is directly written directly in the pattern!
I think it could be good to have this in Psycle mostly if twc comes to life!

About sampler, there is one fundamental feature missing: INTRUMENTS! The ability to map the keyboard with various waves. This way you can have a working piano (and not only some samples that you have to change manually depending on the sound you want) or any other instrument... Wave Layers in sampler have been greyed since I know psycle (v0.x) and I hope it will soon be available... But don't get me wrong.. I really love that program just like it is now!

yes the gray ones are the rightmost keys on a standard 101/104 keyboard

no, tweaks are not THAT useful, at least for some community members, as i see the whole thing

maybe we could turn vol/pan columns by some sort of Tab key and draw them on the place of effects and tweaks

maybe we could just turn them on/off

anyways, more possibilities = more happy people

I got your point!-)

Hopefully someone can fix that, cos now it´s unpossible to tweak the very first row properly. Makes you real sad when you have full 128 row pattern (cant use additional row for tweaks).

Might be great having separate channels for tweaking. It can be quite a mess trying to find the channel where the tweak command is afterwards, at least when you have tens of channels..

Grey keys are those near the numpad, at least mine are there

maybe someone like Jaz would probably kill me, but Buzz's approach towards channels is a bit cumbersome, but not when you're getting into details. the track order in Buzz with pattern names and such is AWESOME. psycle is really messy.

just by the way... pattern names and patterns - any plans for 1.7 ? 32 patterns are just great but i recall the days when 64 was not enough for me

From Breakthru on 22.12.2001, 20:37:

It might be a good approach... but not usuable for many people. Personnally I like to heard what I'm doing. Loop playing a pattern in Buzz involves two screen changes (to Song Order and back to pattern) plus 2 key combinations to set the begin and end of the loop. In psycle as well as in most trackers, you can do that with a simple keypress.
Moreover, the pattern doesn't restart at the begining so you have to listen to the whole pattern before hearing your changes... that's one reason why I don't use Buzz. One other is that I like VSTs and their GUI a lot

About number of patterns: 32? there are 128... but I guess you wanted to say "tracks"... yep 32 may be short... but it's been enough for me up to now...

Just as a piece of information, some keyboard have no grey keys but only white ones!
