  Yet another problem...

So, I have a second problem now. When in pattern view, there is at the top the words "Pattern Editor [00: Untitled]" and you can switch to "Pattern Editor [01]" for example. The problem is when I switch from the default of 00 to any other one, I get no audio once it reaches the point where the track switches to 01 (or 02 or whatever). I downloaded a complete project in .psy form to look at and try to figure it out, but I have no idea. I don't want to give up on this after only 2 days, but I am already getting very frustrated with the program. I know it has great potential since I've already heard a lot of great music made with it, please help me out here (yes, I know I sound like a whiny little baby, but that's almost the way I feel at this point).

I know what you are describing, but now what you are doing or what you want to achieve.

You have the sequence, where you indicate the patterns that play, and you have the pattern themselves.

The number you talk about is the pattern number. if the pattern has data, it has to play.
Also... you talk about tracks.... the only thing that can make psycle not make sound on a concrete track, is that the machine thinks that something is already playing there, or that all voices are playing. I doubt this is the case.

If you still have this problem, try to be more specific. I am sure it is not that difficult to find out what happens.

I'm having more problems. ;_;
http://psycle.pastnotecut.org/thread.php?threadid=601&boardid=3&styleid=&page=1#1 <---please comment if you have any help.
I'm basically totally helpless with this program. I'm finding it a lot harder to use that I thought I woudl for some reason.
Ok, every few minutes, while Psycle is open, I get a little Psycle pop up that says "Error Creating File" what's the deal with that?

Hi there,

Its probably the autosave, check that the directories are setup properly in the menu "configuration/settings/directories" - any more problems try asking in GMT hours!

Thanks for all the help, I managed to figure it out last night. It was just another n00bish mistake. I will try to figure it out on my own before asking questions and begging so desperately for help. Hopefully, I won't develop a reputation as an annoying newbie. Thanks again for the help. I'm finally starting to get a feel for the program and I'm starting to really like it.

EDIT: BTW, the problem was with the Ln value.

I wonder what would have happened if the sequence had all 128values like previous versions... ;·) (or was it a previous version? I don't even remember when I changed that :·P )

Well, so then here there is a good one (question):

Why in the tutorial there is so little reference to how create a composition in the Pattern layout?
There is only a faint mention saying that in the keyboard are Two notes (presumably that we can use) and it does not specify WHICH are they. How can I find any more
notes in the keyboard, or better, how can I introduce in these nice rows any note at all or instruments or anything that sounds?

And last question, is there any support at all in the Forum for people with similar problems than mine?

If someone out there can help me it would be really cool, Thanks!

Which tutorial are you referring to?

My quick dodgy one in the help file, or the "Up We Go" tutorial ?

Have a look in the help file for the keyboard layout (in the Help File menu, go to The Interface > Keyboard Commands and scroll right to the bottom. There you will see how the notes names match up with the keyboard.

That was fab! Thanks a lot for the help, and my apologies for introducing myself in such a pathetically childish manner!
When I first got my hands on Psycle my intuition told me that this was a really good bet in order to do my first steps in the electronic music scene. I definitely start to get a little nervous when I saw that it was not as easy as I would have liked it. But, of course, any kind of apprenticeship takes its time, and especially the learning about things that are worth.

Changing subject (I am sure I'll find thousand questions about Psycle in the future anyway) do you know anything about the compatibility of Psycle and ZynAddSubFX? Although I don't have any music theory (yet), still enjoy the amazing sounds you can create with it. I am wondering if it would be possible to create a tune or melody and integrate it in some way with Psycle so that both work together. And another question is: provided that you have any acquaintance with ZynAddSubFX, how do you record anything with it? I know this is not the ZynFX Forum, but as I could not find any as such in the Web...
Basically it goes like this:When I hit Record, it sends me to a dialog box where it asks me which .WAV I want as the receptor of my tune. What does that mean? I thought that such a complex synthesizer would incorpore a Rec on the Fly, or something that it just records what you are doing in a WAV file and PRESTO.

Anyway, many thanks for your help!
*(I was refering to both tutorials, actually)

The "Record" button is intended for real-time recording - i.e. you click it, specify a filename, and start fiddling around with machines etc, and then click "Stop" when you're done.

To render your track to wav (i.e. render your patterns as they are shown in the sequencer sidebar), click "Save as Audio File" or go to File > Render as Wav.... It will open a dialog box where you can specify a file name + some other options.

I'm not too sure about Zyn, I haven't used it since the VST version was still beta and didn't work very well. Anyway, set up your synth sound in Zyn, and then record your notes in patterns - I suggest you re-read the help file and those tutorials. I'm not sure how much music you've been involved with before, but patterns in trackers are like a vertical musical stave, where the note name and octave is displayed as text instead of a position, and the rhythm is mapped out vertically, downwards.

Btw, I'm planning to produce some Psycle video tutorials and put them on Google video or something soon, so hopefully they might help you too.

No idea what software (I've had a few suggestions), but a friend of mine is doing some FL tutorials for samplereactor.com, and I watched one and it was very informative, so I thought I'd try and do the same for Psycle.

excellent initiative ! depending on the size of the files, they could be hosted directly here

Hi!
I did mention ZynAddSubFX because I recently read an article (how can I post links here to Word files?) about a band (Deprogram) which seems to use trackers and Zyn as some of their base software for producing music. And also because it sounds great, as you know.

About my musical knowledge, I would say it's basically intuitive. Nothing of notation skills or how to read a score. But I do 'understand' music. I am mainly a graphic designer, doing the second year at Aberystwyth University, but I've always been envious of other people playing synthesizers or traditional instruments.
Always liked electronic music, Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Alan Parson Project... And lately discovering the electronic scene thanks to Netlabels and so...
I particularly like Bad Loop, Lackluster, Michel Sandler, 4t thieves and so many more...

But I indeed enjoy all kinds of music, inside the electronic mainstream and outside it, roots, ambient, dance (Orion) or experimental (The Residents...Saluki Regicide).
Anything that connects with the soul and helps you feeling the magic of life is useful, being music or pictures.
Anyway, I'm so busy lately with the course that I doubt I'll have a moment in the next days for calmly finishing reading this new tutorial from 'iliks' I found in Internet. But heavens know that I'm gonna master the functioning of Psycle, and I'll too be contributing then to the world of MUSIC, sonner or later (bells Ennio Morricone style).

That idea about the videos would be the right thing. As someone said in the Forum, such an amazing piece of software deserves its Tutorial counterpart, as deep and powerful as the software itself.
