  Finally! lol!

Well well... after this many years trying to learn the basics of a song structure, I think I'm ready to put some beats for criticism!

But before, I'd like to comment a little about my musical background:

I live in Brazil. So many people say that Brazil is a very musical country and blah blah blah. However, the reality in our streets aren't only samba and ethnic percussion: we have a strong influence of USA music, and this can be verified if one go out for some clubbing. So, we have a huge musical scene in Rio de Janeiro, known as 'brazilian funk' that has little to do with the original 'funk' style, but more towards Electro, Hip-hop and Miami Bass. So, for an electronica addict like me, it's natural that I've developed a special interest about these club culture, besides hating that 'ghetto attitude' of porn lyrics and wild violence. If you're interested in read more about it, check out the (fvckin') Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funk_carioca

Of course, we have clubs playing the traditional Trance/Dance playlists, as well as some underground clubs playing the finest House Music in the world, my real passion. I hope to be able to do some Deep House in the future but for now, I'm really needing some musical theory, in order to understand the chord structures present in this kind of music.

I'll try to put some proto-songs here on a regular basis. And altough I hope you all listen to it, and be THE MOST CRITIC AS YOU CAN BE, it's interesting to note that I'm not making a life in the music business. I'm only a person that like electronic music, and is very satisfied in put some sounds together. I don't have monitors, cool headphones, fancy audio editors, hardware, keyboards, 19-inch LCD screens, or so. I'm not even a musician. I don't know nothing about notes, chords, scales, musical notation, Mozart, Chopin, Bach, RIAA, and others. So, it's obvious that the songs comes with tons of frequency errors, irritating sounds, crappy arrangements, etc.

Said that, I hope you all have a fine time listening to my beats! And since there's few presets used on my songs, I'd be happy if someone wish to remix something. Feel free to ask for the PSY files!

PS. Why 'Dark Virus EP'? Well... dunno. I think it's a cool name (every electronic artists need one, right?!) and 'EP' reminds me those old compact vinyls, and I like this 'retro' idea. There's no plans for an EP, though.

Allow me to be the first to offer words of support (did you expect nothing less?)

You sure took your sweet time, MR. non-musician, non-producer GUY! Labels, titles, BS.

I knew you'd have something worthy to contribute based on the savvy nature of your comments regarding music.

Definitely a good strong electro-80's beat. Structure is right on. The sound production is good also!

This tune is either good as is, or open for some lead sequencing or singing to make it really good. Also, as people often tell me, some kind of lull or breakdown in the volume and/or tempo in the middle of the song helps the overall.

I'd hate to be the one to get your PSY and add leads (hehe can you sense the sarcasm!?) but if you want me to for some ideas, I'll send it back to you in PM rather than post it.

Cheers and keep em coming!

AHAHAHA! Thank you very much for your comments! I was anxious for read your reviews!

As you could listen, I used only crappy 808 sounds, because I wished that "80's feel". I think 808 sounds are perfect for this task! There's only a small reverb on the snares. All the sounds are samples with tons of EQs and a touch of compression, here and there.

Actually, I wished a synth pad or a lead at about 1:50, because you can note it gets very repetitive at this point, and nothing to add. But I've failed in find an apropriate sound, so I leave it "as is". But my songs are a constant work in progress, so I surely will add something in the future.

I really don't see anything wrong if you put a remix online! I'll send the PSY for you soon! Check your PM box!

Thanx for listening!!

I could easily see this turning into an electro/dirty house track to be honest...

Clean sounds and mix, although this would've been easier to mix down because you don't have many conflicting frequencies

Does get a little repetitive, though...

I"ll be interested to see what D'less comes up with (Directionless, that could be your rap/hiphop name - D-LESS!)

Hi, TranceMyriad! Glad you listened my track!

For a start, I decided to use sounds that's easy to fit together. 808 are good for this task, as I said. And since I'm a beginner at arrangement and melody, I got very satisfied with the result.

You're right: too repetitive, because I was unable to find a proper pad or lead to add. And I've chosen to put it "as is", because I was afraid of ruin it. But I was listening to a pre-remix done by Directionless, and I'm sure you'll have a nice work soon!

BTW, I'd love to see it transformed on a House track!!

In that case you should be fairly pleased with this compared to the demo I gave you since I hadn't changed any drum samples yet.

Dark Virus EP - Stripped.mp3

Much thanks goes to SAS for showing me some sound production skills, esp for dance music.

I really like rhythm in this, very groovy. PARTICULARLY the part that comes in at 2:33, I'd like to hear more of that

I like 808 sounds too. Good track man, looking forward to more.

OK here's a new mix. Less overdriven but more balanced.

Dark Virus EP - Stripped_mix3.mp3

there's so many things at play here... this kind of mixing can be a headache..

Anyway, I like the sound of this better, hope you do too.
