  Out of Memory?

This has happened twice: Psycle crashes, I restart the program, open the song I was working on, and get an error message: "Out of Memory!" And the song doesn't load. There doesn't seem to be any way around this.

So I'm wondering if this is a normal thing and if there's any way I can recover all of my hard work.

Just a note: I do use a number of VSTs not included by default with Psycle, but they've all been linked to via this board, so I assume they're safe.

I don't seem to have that 'out of memory' trouble anymore now that I'm on Psycle 1.8.5. But I did lose a few songs this way in previous versions. If you aren't on 1.8.5, you should update! If you are on 1.8.5, i'd be curious to know which VSTs were used in the songs that crashed?

Hmm, ok. I'm using 1.8.2, so that might be it. Do you think I'll be able to open these files with 1.8.5 even though they've already been "broken."

I really don't know much about computers.

It is likely that you will be able to open these and retrieve your pattern data. But the machines will likely be missing so you will have to start that from scratch.

So it may not be a total loss. Retrieving your composition is the most important part.

Yes, please update to 1.8.5! It is absolutely great!!

Oh yes, anything that can be saved will make me happy.

Edit: It worked! I've lost a lot of work, but it's better than nothing. Thanks for your help!

AAAH... Psycle. That love/hate relationship.

I've learn too much only losing my work!

1 - Whenever I make a change on my previous PSY, I backup it with songname_1.psy, _2.psy... and so on. When It's finished, I delete the entire backup folder, and keep only the final file.

2 - Certain VSTs can be cruel. Last week I lost a song only trying to use Cheese Machine. If I hadn't a bkp...

3 - If I absolutely need to use a malicious VST, I export the song in WAV, and load it on another project. Then, export the track as WAV, and load on the original project.

Only some tips that can prevent you from hate our beloved software!

Yeah, I've learned my lesson as far as making backups go. Fortunately, shortly before Psycle killed my song I exported it as a WAV, so it shouldn't be too difficult to pick up where I left off. It'll just be a lot harder to edit something I don't like.

As long as you have the pattern data, its simply a matter of 'remixing' your tune with the same or different samples/VSTis and the corresponding effects. Yes, I do know what a chore this feels to reassign everything. Yet fate has dealt you an opportunity to view this track through new eyes.

Or if you don't believe in fate... From destruction comes renovation.

In either case, no need to focus on that original WAV export in order to replicate the entire sound. You can make a new sound that perhaps would be even better... unless you think the original was perfect. hehe

I'm not actually saying this towards you so please don't take offense. I thought this way about a particular track that crashed. I also had a wav export. But in reality, making a fresh start of the sound was the way to go for some aspects, whereas some parts seemed best replicated as they were before. I still haven't finished that rework even though the composition is all done.

Maybe I'll have a look now.

Ha, I don't take any offense at all. Thing was, I had previously considered this song "finished," but I spontaneously got the urge to go back in and touch-up on some things (sound effects, a little more bass, some harmonies, etc.) That's why it shouldn't be hard for me to pick up where I left off.
