I may post an updated compile tomorrow.

I've fixed a few small problems, and i am investigating about this crash, as i have another user who had a similar (if not the same) problem.

For now, if you know how to, you can remove the registry settings for psycle ( HKCU\Software\psycle\psycledelics\ ).
That might either help, or not help at all.

Great. Good to see some action.

Moving block resets the selection. I think it would be better if selection was moved to new location as well.

Firstly, Thank U very much for your effort!

I was counting the hours for this release! I ran to home, in order to test it! Let's see:

Man, this is a really awesome release! It's so much news and improvements, that I couldn't imagine Psycle could be better than it already is!

LOVED!

a ) "delete" really delete: man.... just in time!!

b ) new plugin screen: more compact and functional! Loved!
c ) interpolate linear/curve feature (right click at pattern screen): Is it what I'm thinking? A linear or logarithmic twk/tws?? Man, this is something I was waiting for!
d ) change generator (right click at pattern screen): interesting... select the instrument at the drop down and simply change it. welcome!
e ) wav editor: is way better than ever! various cool actions, but I think it still misses a "undo".
f ) open preset feature (plugin screen toolbar): tons of presets now on Psycle! Need to say more?
g ) "save as wav" dialog: the new "dither" option seems to be clear enough, but would be interesting if someone explain better the 3 options (triangular, rectangular, gaussian)

WEIRD

a ) change pattern name: the name appears, but then disapears, keeping only visible at the left down corner. I thought it'd be visible at the pattern window itself...
b ) "help button" is hidden at right side of "about button".
c ) drag & drop feature: is nice, but the selection disapears (like the above user mentioned) and we can't hold CTRL in order to replicate the selection.

My test was done with some native plugs and some VSTS:

native: sampler (x3), arguru compressor (x1)
VST: eSoul Bass Machine (synthedit), W1 Limiter, s(M)exoscope

The new VST host seems pretty solid.

QUESTIONS:

1 - Is there some problem in openning songs made in the previous versions (1.8.2 and 1.8.3)?
2 - There's another recomendations?

Tomorrow, I'll continue to work on a quasi-song I was making. I'll try it in 1.8.5RC! =)

a) there might be still some bug in there. And currently i have a problem where the enter key (to confirm) doesn't work and you have to close the "editbox" clicking on the sequence.

b) yup, i saw that. should be a simple thing to fix

c) Didn't thought about that, I will add both.

There are two problems:
One is that older psycle didn't store correctly the size of the data for the VST's (it stored less than real). Loading those is slower, because psycle has to reposition the cursor searching for the next block.

The other appeared just in one song and i'm not sure if it is representative, or was just a problem with alpha versions (guess)

I can't cut and paste notes (Block Copy/Cut and Block Paste) from track to track. The shortcuts Ctrl + X and Ctrl +V do not work either.
Looks great though.

First, this is great news! Congratulations and big thanks for putting this up to the developers team!

Now second, i seem to have a problem similar to psyct: when i try to load Psycle, it crashes inmediately (bringing the send error report ms stuff). So i'll wait if there is some new update on this.

The improvements sound really awesome!

From [JAZ] on 28.07.2007, 21:56:

An update is out and ready to be tested.

We've been fixing several of the (small) problems detected during these two days, and have implemented some of the suggestions in this thread.

We've also solved (or at least detected and put a workaround) to the crash problem at startup that some of you were having. The problem came out being some SSE2 instructions that some (older) processors don't support.

For this reason, there are now two links for download. Check either the news post, or the psycle devel post to get it.

Planetvenga : For me, both, block copy/cut paste via the menu, and the shortcuts are working. You should give me more details of what and *how* do you do it, to try to make those same steps here.

Hi!

I've occasionally used Psycle before and gave the 1.8.5RC a shot. Result:

Error Starting Program

The UNIVERSALIS.DLL file is linked to missing export KERNEL32.DLL:GetConsoleWindow.

Needless to say, I'm running Win98SE on this box. I've seen some activity in the source code repository that may be related to this, so it might already be fixed, but I thought I'd report it anyway.

Thanks!

Edit: FWIW I've downloaded and tested the version compiled 28-Jul-2007 with the same end result.

From dark_virus on 29.07.2007, 00:10:

Trying the SS2 version now. Seems the annoying bugs has gone!

But...

It still occurs, but I can't tell exactly what is causing it. I select a portion of the track, move it to another one and, if it gets out of the "fit", it simply closes the program, without any message.

To me this isn't a serious problem anyway. Thanks for your effort! =)

After erasing the (current user) registry branch of previous Psycle install, the new SSE version now loads for me!

This is the most exciting Psycle upgrade in a long time.

I found that two vst's make Psycle crash:

Nepheton
beatfckr.dll (old and discontinued? i believe)

The first has a lot of outs and i think it was the reason of Aodix crashing on me last time, although Aodix can load it, but crashed when closing the plugin. Buzé seems to handle it well with the Polac vsti machine.
This plugins were moved to a 'inestables' folder, so Psycle won't worry about them.

Anyways, with Psycle is possible to scan multiple subdirectories, one at a time (list will acumulate previous with consecutive scans), detect the crashing vst's, isolate them, and finally have it all listed.
Changing the vstdir entry from registry is handy if a vst makes Psycle crash.

I'll check this release more in detail later.

i first connected machines to master, then changed connection to mixer. it worked, but most of the saved files couldn't be loaded again. the mixer is (will be) a great plugin though, especially it's easier to put a special 'athmosphere" in the mix. i post one mix in the mp3 section. thanks for the good work.
knarro (bronski, could not remember my old pasword and found no way to get a new one...).
aloha akhba!

From dark_virus on 29.07.2007, 07:20:

The mixer still isn't 100% yet. I was working on a song, and the mixer stops to accept connections. I then closed the prog and tried to open it again. It appears to load the machines, and close imediately. So I must load the song in Psycle previous version, delete the mixer and then load it on new Psycle RC again.

No error messages. Only a sudden program close.

ISSUES (?):

1 - After selecting a pattern block, can't un-select it clicking at the selection area. Is it normal?

2 - I can't work on 2 Psycle instances anymore. Sad...

3 - The "save as audio file" is a little strange too. I tried to render a piano line I made of a soundfont, and it delivers some weird delays. So, I disabled the "dither" option, and exported again, then it's fine. Maybe I'm missing some feature of this new option.

I'm using the SSE2 version.

Hi JAZ!

SEE works!
Looks like there are a lot of nice things to discover!
AND NOW: Testing, testing, testing...

From knarro on 29.07.2007, 13:20:

i could open parameters of a plugin in a song i started with 1.8 but after i loaded the plugin in 1.85 rc psycle crashes when doubleclick on the plugin (linplug organ).

From [JAZ] on 29.07.2007, 13:51:

wow! lots of replies!!! Let's see:

Problems with VST plugins:

I sure will take a look at those. This last month has been a continuous fix this, break that in the VST host. This is somewhat to be expected, when plugins start to make high use of the Host, because some dependency is generated and it requires finetuning.

Problem with Windows 98:

That error is not intended, and we no longer make use of that call, so if bohan hasn't yet fixed it, it probably will be for final.

Crash when block dragging:

I tried to do it and i didn't have any problem. When I try to move a block, the data that would go to outside of the pattern is not moved.
If you can put a detailed explanation on how to make it crash...
Edit: I've added some code that prevent any erroneous memory access in that function, so now it should be safe.

Problems with Mixer Machine:

Not sure if everyone noticed, but there's a "mixerdemo.psy" song included in the packages. It has a brief explanation of what can be done in the song comments, and demonstrates almost everything of what can be done with it.
A full documentation is in the works for the final version.

I will check those problems you mention. The mixer machine is quite a complex one, even if it doesn't seem so, and it required even modifying parts internal to psycle in order to make it functional (modifications to how wires are created, deleted, and so on).

There is one thing that you should not (yet) do with the machine, Replace machine (guess it doesn't have sense to replace a mixer anyway) and Exchange, being one or both a mixer machine.

About the limitation of connections: It only accepts 12 inputs, and 12 send/returns, but of course, you can stack several mixers, and is in fact a suggestion for complex tracks ( say, separate drums, and other parts)

Also, other limitations apply as in send/returns don't accept multiwiring. It can only exist one path (like in the mixerdemo song). Do the routing (if needed) inside the mixer.

The_Brainwashed:

Go to the configuration and enable the following new options in the "Keyboard and Misc" tab:

Windows Behaviour on selected blocks.
Allow multiple instances

And yes, you can't unselect clicking over the selection area now. I guess i can add a check that if the block hasn't been dragged, then unmark.

About the delay you mention with dither, I will investigate it. I didn't code it, but a dither shouldn't add a delay.

From planetvenga on 29.07.2007, 17:47:

EDIT: Actually the problem didn't dissappear. It happens quite frequently with the new Psycle on my computer. I will highlight a column or chunk, and press Ctrl+C or Block Copy. When I go to paste it (by either Ctrl+V or Block Paste), it will not paste. This happens both in the same pattern and with different patterns, of instruments of all types, native and VST. It happens randomly, sometimes copying and pasting works, sometimes it doesn't. I can't purposely recreate it, because it randomly appears. I am not sure why this happens.
I will be gone for the next week, so good luck with the problem, if you can't recreate the problem, I am content with the beta.

Also, when highlighting the columns or several lines, I find it aggravating that you have to click on an unhighlighted area to unhighlight the highlighted column. In the beta, this does not happen. Is this supposed to happen, or is this possibly why my copying and pasting does not work?

But thank you very much for your consideration and support, the new Psycle sounds great, keep up the good work!
