  Coop Songs :]

Hi psyclers ..

I read some threads with some guys saying that they can't finish all their songs, it's my case too

I think nobody can say he finished every songs he started ? ( that would'nt be good for pleasure of tracking anyway

I first thought to a coop compo to share experience of peoples here, but when I really think to this, I'm not ready for this .. I started tracking alone, I worked with a friend of mine to make commercial music for night clubs, but I never worked with someone on the net, and I think it's not really easy to synchronise everybody's work on a project ..

So, to start this idea and find good teams who like working together at their rythm, I believe that a wiki aera for old song you don't continue to work could be a good starting block to append other people's work and work with them..

I think this new type of tracking experience could learn a lot of tricks and make us better than we were (and finding an issue to all these psy files pending on our drives ).

I could create wiki now, but if I'm alone using it, that would'nt be so exciting that it can be

ps: Is there "General Public License" for music ? Should we create it ? Why are ships stupids ? oops I'm loosing my mind, sorry

Uploading old incomplete .psy files that you're stuck on so that other people can see them and possibly make something out of it or add onto it themselves?

Not a bad idea.

I've got about four billion, trust me.

That's a great idea!

I have a rather dogmatic approach to music: I always try so finish what I start, that's the only way to keep releasing finished songs for me...

I think I have abandoned 2 psycle songs in the last years, both after just a few patterns since they were going absolutely nowhere...

But I might create just some nice patterns to post here, and also maybe enjoy finishing some other people's songs sometime maybe?

From MfM on 05.02.2005, 14:35:

yes..this is a nice idea

i think on that page every submitters must explain his work ...genre,plugins used, samples so interested people will be able to make their choise..

I think it can be an open aera .. No rules ..
Someone put a file on it, someone else take it and improve it, or not..
This aera could be done for those who want to see what other peoples can do with their idea ..

What about a small license file that explain rules of the aera and work of each psycler on the file in a Zip file ?

And for property of this work ?
I think a free license like GPL is good for this type of community work, but I have'nt found anything about existing licenses for music ? Maybe we should create it O_o. I can't be the first man having this idea ??

Another problem with that, how can we make a clean evolution tree ?
All versions will be very different I think, how to find the best ( from a subjective point of view ) ?
For the moment let's start with a single wiki page, this concept will maybe extend itself, but for the moment, if we are ten to work on these project files, that will be marvelous
If there are thousand of psyclers in the world ( \o/ that would be great ) , we will think to a better system ( like CVS ) but it's not the moment to think to this.

It's done:

http://psycle.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?page=Open_Songs

I think this method will do the trick, but if you want to change something to make it more useable... Go and do it

GPL doesn't work that well for music. Something like the Creative Commons Licenses are more suitable for music. Much more useful as it covers music-specific stuff. look it up on google...

LOL, just thought of a really morbid yet appropriate name/catch phrase for a project like this:

Orphantipsyde - Putting an end to orphaned Psycle tunes

Yes, I know.... I need therapy.

yeah!! very very nice page ToX
..only one thing:i think the evolution tree must be also write on the .txt file inside the zip!
for example:

SONG NAME

HISTORY:

-03/03/2005 song started by MfM
-05/04/2005 add some drums patterns by ToX
-07/04/2005 add ....by .....

and so on .....

For the history of zipfile I thought It could be done as this

example:

quote:
File.txt
!!! Open Aera Psycle File !!!

You can freely distribute this file in its original zipfile.
If you modify this tune and think you can't work anymore on the file, add your Song on the wiki page and create a new zip file with a completed text file in it

http://psycle.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?page=Open_Songs

Please keep this aera clean Have fun.

Song 1 stage 1: Title "Dub test" version ToX.1
Style: Reggae
Date: End of 2004
Comment: Only native machines used.

Song 1 stage 2: Title "Dub test" version Tox-MfM.2
Style: Reggae
Date: End of 2004
Comment: Added 5 patterns with bass sweeps and voice echoes

This may do the trick ?

Exactly , but team is not pre-defined and there can be several results for the same start.

I like this idea... finally a decent place to put my 30+ unfinished tracks .

From sampler on 08.02.2005, 08:30:

Yes. The problem for me is that most of my unfinished .psys use commercial VST(i)s (and these .psys are pure shit)

From ToX on 08.02.2005, 12:37:

yep that's a big problem .. psy files with commercial VST need licenses to accord themselves with law, but that's not really impossible to share them..

If we put the needed licenses in the song comment, users will know how having the psy file working ( like in a traditionnal psy file on pastnotcut) . License remains the user's problem, not the psycle's problem (psy file contain only plans to generate signals sent to the VST ), so responsabilities are shared between users, the open aera still respects law even if VST used is classified mass-destruction weapon .. ( Why do you think to a Fanck Sinatra's voice generator ?? )

If a psy file needs commercial VST, maybe a link to the ogg/mp3 file could be a good medium for demonstrate what the song is (and it makes some free advertisement for the vst producer and his product's capabilities, that's not a bad point for him )

Overall, for the moment we are far of this organisationnal aspect , let's start slowly to feed this place and find the good rythm to make it alive

I just wonder about demo VST ? We wouldn't use them for a commercial purpose, but it's not that clear in my head ... We use it to produce some result, not to try it.. But we can say we are performing tests (with a non-profit activity, none would attack us for this ..) but I don't really know.. Is their an attorney in the place ?

edit: I updated wiki page to inform users and visitors of our considerations about copyrights and law.

re-edit : added my last tune to the page ( if someone wants of it )
