Paranoia for Psycle & Wiki - Problematic VSTs

Hello.
As some of you know, I once had a great Psycle crash (my fault - using unstable version for production) and said I would make a wrapper to Psycle (called Paranoia for Psycle) that would save my work.

It's almost ready. I'm currently beta-testing it and writing documentation. I will release it on my website this week (of course there will be an announce here :-) ).

What has it to do with Problematic VSTs?

As we all know, Psycle has problems with some VSTs and this is the main reason of the crashes. My wrapper can point the user to the wiki when a crash occurs so the user can check whether he has problematic VSTs installed. He could even add a new VST to the list. That's why we have a wiki!

BUT. The problematic VSTs section is now horror. Doesn't say anything to me, and it is useless for developers. We should change it.

My idea is to have a template of a problematic VST which would look like this:
- VST name - Vendor - link to get it
- the problem (crash, GUI related, no sound, bad sound, doesn't save settings, etc.)
- VST hosts where it works well

For example:
- Vivaldi! - Stefan Kuhn - http://www.stefan-kuhn.net/content/vivaldi.html
- doesn't save settings
- ReNoise

That template would make it much easier for devs to handle problems. It would make much easier to users to work out their Psycle instability. I think it's a good idea.

Any comments?

Regards,
kSh

This is a great idea...i wondered what had happened to Paranoia....can't wait till you release it....it's very annoying when you're trying to finish a song and the VST keeps crashing ....good on ya!

That a good idea,
we can add also the OS used : w98 or XP (i have different crash on 98 and XP with the same VSTs), i don't know if it is a useful info for coders.
And maybe we can add a field "REM" it could look like this

Triangle II rgcaudio http://www.rgcaudio.com
doesn't save settings
Muzys
under XP
Settings were saved in the old .psy format.

I think that's good and important in order to that wiki section to be useful. But for some ppl maybe is not possible to specify some info kSh propose, maybe is asking for much. We have to understand it.
I don't have others VST Hosts installed (Only Orion Platinum sometimes...) for example.

it would probably still be a good idea to add the extra fields and leave them blank for others to fill in....

Yes, exactly! We need the most information we can get. If a person can't give enough information, leaves some fields blank. Then another person can fill them up if knows more.

I'm very happy that somebody actually waits for my software. That makes me want to work even harder Stay tuned.

kSh
