Hey ALK ….you did a good work!!

-I liked very much the possibility of changing generators simply clicking on it….it was one of the most annoying things

-i liked also the 'maximise pattern view'

--WELL DONE--

...but now any questions for you!!

What’s minimixer for if he doesn't work??
-Really I was using it!!!

when i load a song with particular set up of volumes in the minimixer(psycle 1.7.4),in this new version How will they be set up?

Thanks for the comments MFM :-) I hope that psycle has re-awoken, it seems that interest has returned and some other tracker/coders are looking at the source since this release (lets see what the future brings).

The minimixer was just mapping the wire vols of all the machines cnonecting to the master to the minimixer dialog.. however, it was actually messing with your vols, slightly adjusting them each tmie you opened the master dialog due to floating point rounding errors. It would be quite an effort to fix it and personally I think it's pretty useless so I just disabled it, and put my energies elsewhere. Do you REALLY want it? If so it needs redoing, internally and externally needs to be much bigger etc.

Just a little (but annoying) thing introduced in Alk's build: new songs are set to +6.0dB. Shouldn't they be set to 0.0dB like it always was?
The second thing: the active machine mark is somewhat poor implemented because you can get Psycle show all machines as active by:
* adding new machines (the old active has still the mark, and the new gets another mark)
* clicking MUTE or SOLO on other than active machines (most skins like my TinyBoxes support this)
* maybe there is more

http://sirius.cs.put.poznan.pl/~inf66270/bug.png

Alk,
When you update this, don't forget about the P4 version. BTW, it is a great idea to have an official P4 build :-) And you could pet some P4 users (like myself) by adding: "P4 Edition" on the title bar

But to the more important things: I'm very happy to see that you have pushed the project forward. What are you planning to implement now?

Regards,
kSh

Thanks for the report Ksh!

*new songs are set to +6.0dB. Shouldn't they be set to 0.0dB like it always was?

right I'll change that

* adding new machines (the old active has still the mark, and the new gets another mark)
* clicking MUTE or SOLO on other than active machines (most skins like my TinyBoxes support this)
* maybe there is more

oops, I'll check it out - I think it's cos it sometimes only draws whats changes (like when adding a machine) it doesnt take into account that the old machine is highlighted

*And you could pet some P4 users (like myself) by adding: "P4 Edition" on the title bar

haha =p

*But to the more important things: I'm very happy to see that you have pushed the project forward. What are you planning to implement now?

I'm glad! it seems some new interest has focused on psycle since the new release. There a few things I'm thinking of..

Bitmapped font in pattern (for speed and pleasure ;))
Make the converted natives (like dalay delay) useful again
Get Master Dialog working properly and useful? :p
Improve VST host

I can't think but probably more stuff =o

ok, bugs 1 and 2 fixed, but..

what does this mean?

* clicking MUTE or SOLO on other than active machines (most skins like my TinyBoxes support this)

From kSh on 06.05.2004, 08:36:

I mean, one of the possibilities to mess up the 'active generator' mark is to click MUTE or click SOLO on a non-active machine. It becomes then active but the old one stays also that way.

OK, but I think you have corrected it already :-)

From what I have learnt your changes are rather cosmetic ;-) I'd rather see some wave editor improvements (like the ability to play only a selected area of it; set loops in a more convienient way; and... the ability - as an option - to disable sample preview on the load dialog as it is pretty annoying when trying to load your 30MB wavs to play them) :-)

I'll check the sources myself, maybe in a couple of weeks I will be able to help with some other things.

Regards,
kSh

Good ideas, kSh.... although I'm using the P4 build on a 3.0GHz P4 with HT, and i'm not having any problems with the machine selection, like you said...as soon as i click mute or solo on a machine other than the active machine, it itself becomes the active machine, and the other one become unselected...as it should...I wonder if the problem is specific to your particular setup??

yes alk you're right….. what I really need would be a powerful mixer with an eq all in one….so that I can click on MASTER and have a screen with an interface to be set up,but without loading a plug-in!!!
Would it be possible to do?

From kSh on 06.05.2004, 20:40:

TranceMyriad, that's very weird. As you can see on my screenshot, false active marks were popping also when I clicked on MUTE/SOLO. But when I switched to some other skin and then came back to the old one, the problem disappeared I'm glad. BTW: you have a hell of a neat CPU, mine is 2.4GHz, still I'm very fond of it.

MfM, I think your propositions are rather out of place. Why implement an Eq if there is one? It has some certain drawbacks: 1. Alk would be doing Eq instead of more important things. 2. People like myself who do not use any global Eq would have some less performance because of the ever-watchful Eq. 3. I'm sure it would introduce new bugs.

In my opinion the devs should be now more concerned about:
- make the converted natives useful again (some of them crash)
- improve the VST Host (as we all know it is kind of unstable sometimes) plus I would find it useful to optionally hide the parameter list on the right of the VST(i) interface because it makes the whole window bigger if the machine is small
- adding new things to the pattern editor (like logarythmic interpolation and such)
- adding new things to the wave editor (like playing only the selected part, setting loops graphically, option to disable wave preview on the load dialog and such)
- change the autosave behaviour - if I set it to off, I lose data every now and then because of the crashes; when set on, it breaks the sound while saving ('cause it's stealing the focus) and there are cases when it tries to save when the file is actually being saved because I clicked SAVE (and the produced file is broken - my work goes to hell); my suggestion would be: 1. Autosave shouldn't steal the focus (I wouldn't care if there wasn't any progress bar, but only a text on the Status Bar saying "Auto-saving in progress..." or whatever). 2. Autosave shouldn't save when the file is just being saved. 3. Autosave should produce save files for each file (i.e. untitled_autosave.psy; mynewcoolsong_autosave.psy; italodisco_autosave.psy).

There are obviously more ideas but these seem to be the most important and the dreams of the crowd (multisequencer...) must wait.

And one more thing, Alk, why bother doing the bitmap font stuff? Is it really so worth doing?

And where is the guy who said is doing the help file?

Regards,
kSh

nice post KSh good points

reason for doing the bitmapped pattern? not everyone has a p4 2.4 HT :-P

currently the pattern is slow... it causes audio to skips when follow mode is on and it changes pattern (redraws the full screen) - this is because of the font rendering. so fixing this is a good thing.. And I can use classic styled tracker/demo fonts

hahah that's great

*btw, i was talking about the 'international' computing thingie alk mentioned.... - incase you wondered *

you can check out the latest build here ->

http://psycle.sourceforge.net

(it has the two fixes from above)

please report any bugs =)

From kSh on 07.05.2004, 20:48:

The bug of a couple active marks is still here. Although I have discovered that it is not connected with drawing but with redrawing. When you add a generator, the old active mark is still there. But when you just pop up any other Windows window (like Explorer) and hide it: the problem goes away. So my bet is Psycle does not properly redraw the thing after adding a new generator.
The trivial 6.0dB problem went away.

Just a thought: is it just me or does it really smells like spring coming again to the project?

kSh

Thanks to all the developper for the great work

I have question (for pooplog i think, and not for alk) :

with the "record midi as raw mcm" checked the pattern are always filled with mcmFE000000, even when doing nothing, am i the only one with this bug ? (midi ox shows no activity on my "midi in port")

From DMNXS on 08.05.2004, 16:32:

Yay!!! A new release! Me be happy ! Me hope vst problem be fixed ...
Man, this is great!

From alk on 08.05.2004, 16:53:

I think you're right, Spring has arrived :-) btw, there's possibly more good news on the horizon, but we'll see ;-) (let's not count our chickens till they hatch)

Ksh, that bug has been fixed! If I add a generator it is set active. If I add another generator then the new one is active and athe old one is not. That's how it's working here.. Something funny going on you sure to have the latest build?

From kSh on 08.05.2004, 23:31:

Yes, "me be pretty sure" It's true that you have solved the problem in a way. But you don't actually redraw the machine view and despite the new machine occurs, the old has still some faulty active mark. When you open whatever other Windows application to cover the machine view on the screen and close it, the buggy active mark goes away.

That's why I think it is a redraw problem.

kSh

opening program

I am really having a very hard time opening the program's upgrade for windows xp. It keeps telling me that the msvcp7 ddl file is not found, but there it is on their files list. When I reinstall, it's the same problem. Also, how do I make a shortcut to start for the program? Is there an unistall or do you drag the file zip to trash??
I just joined and totally new at this program and have dealt with other track systems; but never this intense. So I feel a bit lost.... I really would like to grow with your system.....

Thanks...
