Oh one thing, if there will be a multisampled format, it should be some kind of standard, or at least import them.

Nobody wants to redo their multisamples again (for examples from sampling CDs)

So at least soundfont should be included, maybe also Gigasampler, so keyswitching should be implemented.

And while we're at it, how about hard disk streaming for large samples? (gigasampler files are HUGE often)

OK, I know, these would mean huge amounts of work, but what's the point of creating multisampling capability if almost nobody uses it?

I mean this:
IT:
· Axy: Set Speed
· Bxy: Position Jump
· Cxy: Pattern Break
...

Notice that a bunch of them are in both formats. And some contain two effects in one to save space, so those can be left out.

And most of the others are supported, with much more power, in other ways. A better idea for the sampler would be to give it a dedicated mixer with multiple outputs. Of course, that would require re-working a lot of code. These things are on my mental list, already. I should flesh them out a bit, and add them officially to the psycle wishlist.

If you want to know how to re-produce any of the effects you mentioned, feel free to ask. I'm sure several other people have tackled the problem before you. =)

- Eric

Can it be that there are some Effects not listed in the help file? 'Cause there are still about half the effects missing...

I'll just check the WIKI for some help...

Problem with soundfonts loading

When I have recorded a song with a soundfont and then try to reload the song, Psycle freezes.

Note: this does'nt happen every time and it has never happened on the alphas 1.7.7.13 and 1.7.7.14

thanks

What are you using to load Soundfonts? I use RGCAudio sfz (free) VSTi and i don't have problems.

Am noticing that 1.6.7.2.g7 is not updating recent files. It started and now keeps displaying the 1st four that I saved, in the same order.

Question: Is this 1.7.6.2.g7 version also optimized for a p4, or is it that there hasn't been a p4 release yet? I have 2 different versions of psycle on my machine, 1.7.6.1 for P4, and 1.7.6.2.g7, which I just downloaded 3 days ago. I am using the most recent more now, and noticing many crashes -- but I think it is perhaps because of a filter I am using. I am suspecting "cosmogirl" vst is bringing me down. Seems to be using a lot of my 2.2 ghz p4 cpu

Any feedback or advice would be appreciated. Cheers, frog

I've checked the recent file list on 1.7.6.2 and it works on windows xp... it's not the first time we have problems with compatibility of microsoft's GUI libraries with windows98, so, it might be another one. can you tell me what OS you are on?

Short answer: Yes, it is :-)
Long answer: For psycle version 1.7.6.2, there are two packs at sourceforge, one containing both the "G6" and "G7" builds, and the other only the "G7" build -- G as in Generation?.
Intel Pentium IV will better run the G7 build; tho, we can't expect much difference because the CPU is mostly spent in the various plugins you use.
Read the ReadMe-CPU.text file if you have it.

Have you tried with psycle 1.7.7.x?
It's the "alpha" build in the files section.
Please report the problem here if it still crashes on 1.7.7.x http://psycle.sourceforge.net/wiki/index...Problematic_VST

Cheers

OK, I can't blame Cosmogirl too much, although she is definitely high maintenance. (And very fine) I removed her and still had big crash big. I am attempting to transpose a song with several voices into Psycle, and have been starting to think that this is not the best idea.

Using Win 2K, all service packs. Gigabyte board with Via chipset. Has AC97 sound chip on board, which brings up another question -- as a BTW, would a Soundblaster live or a Yamaha XG improve the performance over the onboard chipset, as regards Psycle?

Regarding the "Recent Files" issue, as soon as I reported it to you, it started displaying one recent file, for the first time in days. But only one.

And regarding the G7 or G6, I guess that I am then using the appropriate version, as much as I can. And yes, those plugins do indeed eat up the CPU. Since I am getting so many crashes, I may have to divide my composition into a prelim stage where I just make samples and an advanced stage, where I will be combining these sample.

I am now thinking that as educational as it has been, an attempt at transcribing a whole song with Psycle, using vst filters and synths, may require far too much planning and work. I think I will have to go back to the fingerpainting style again. Well, after all, "International Coloring Contest" is a favorite song of mine.

I will go to sourceforge and see what dl's you have for me there sometime in the next 2-4 days. Probably download the 1.7.7 ver and try it.

Cheers, der frog

-- Added later --

I notice at Sourceforge that Msr. Johan-Boule says that 1.7.7 isn't ready. Is this correct?

I fingerpainted with XRS, and had a very good time. I could do this with Psycle too, but far more so. Fingerpainting is the best, when you get down to it. As Susan Langer said, it's all about making mud pies and showing them off to each other, really.

From BJohan on 30.12.2004, 11:02:

hi,

Indeed, the 1.7.7.x versions are still categorized as "alpha". They can have some new bugs, but also they have some bug fixes compared to previous versions.
You can find it in the files section of psycledelics (not sourceforge's file section).

Excellent. OK, and I am just still experiencing set-up angst. I am now seeing that part of setting up the program, for me, really involves establishing preconfigured .psy files that perform this preliminary phase, (even create an assembly line) which doesn't seem as daunting as it appeared in my previous post. Generate grooves then resample them. Shows what a novice I am, I guess. (But hopefully somebody will read this post and learn from my learning, like I do from reading all these posts.) Something in that one song, maybe some plugin, was crashing me. Now I am runnng a nice little groove, getting ready to run it into tapeit, and then using that as a sample, just as someone had previously posted. I really appreciate this board, and it now has a lot of useful information. Reading some of the old posts here have been very useful. And Cosmogirl is a sweet little something.

Here's an obscure question: can I export patterns, or simply cut and paste them into a spreadsheet, and then back? This whole deal of composing via spreadsheet, i.e., pattern editor, and flowchart (machine view) is just so awesome. I really enjoy Excel, and I agree with what I have heard elsewhere, that it is MS' best program. My fav, anyway. But if one could have Excel running next to the Psycle machine, it could get pretty groovy.

But anyway, it is running great now that I have put that song aside. Wasn't mine anywaaah.

This is reminiscent to me of how I used to run a Mattel Synsonics through a couple of Boss DD-2's and a phase shifter. Aside from all the cables, I thought that was the bomb. I am sooo glad you guys are here!

-- And btw, I can justy mute everything else and render to wave anyway. Heck with tapeit. It certainly has uses, especially for hosts that don't have that groovy feature. Cheers, das frog

Hello,

This kinda came out of nowhere - I cannot navigate (entering notes & stuff) within patterns. Anyone else have this problem?

I have not had this problem until I installed one of the betas, so I'm thinking that's probably it. My question is, none of my Psycles work now, they all exhibit that same behavior of not being able to cursor around or enter notes into the pattern. Is there a way I can get rid of the beta and restore the stable version?

From [JAZ] on 12.03.2005, 10:08:

Yes, that's my fault.

I've changed the way the keymapping is saved on the file (making it load/save faster), and it is incompatible with the previous versions. So basically, when you load an old version ( previous to 1.7.24 IIRC..), it will not find the keys, and not initialize the table, BUT removing the keys in the file.

The fix is either remove the file (Windows\psyclekeys.ini), or simply press the "Default" button on the "keyboard and Misc" tab of the configuration, which will reset the keys aswell. You can use Load/Save to have custom defaults.
