  Could use some MIDI help!

Hello! Well, I just got meeself a MIDI keyboard & I was pleased to find that Psycle had the lowest latency of all the other programs I've tried (Buzz sux)! But I'm wondering how to map different MIDI channels to different machines... I checked the DOCs & I didn't see anything. Did I miss it?

Mmmmm what you are trying to do might not be possible.

First, be sure that you read the MIDI documentation. It is under the "Docs\" directory, in a zipped file.

If you only want to play with the keyboard, then, the simplest way is to make sure that the Checkbox under the menu "Configuration-Settings-Input/ouput", that says "Enabled: Sequenced with MIDI commands Disabled: Using MIDI keyboard" is disabled.

That way, you can select the machine you're playing with the combobox on Psycle. If not, you need to send specific commands to select it, which might be difficult or even impossible with a simple MIDI keyboard.

Assigning MIDI channels can only be done by sequencing (Checkbox enabled). There's no way to speficy that manually inside Psycle.

I just got myself a keybard too. Well, actually, it's a keyboard synth (Roland XP-30). Is it possible to trigger the MIDI in my keyboard from Psycle?

I'm going to try that little suggestion of yours. I admit, however, I'm very new to the world of MIDI. I think Deltex7 and I might be trying to do the same thing.

I've been using ztracker...but I miss my drump samples...=(

And I like psycle a lot more anyhow.

Hi Coplan/Deltex7,

I think it's impossible to send MIDI OUT from Psycle!

Psycle is not a midi tracker, it's synths are playable from a midi keyboard though, but that's something completely different... say ahh, "half-duplex".

So for Midi-out-Tracking stick to Modix/zTracker or NTK3(ntk3 is a bit buggy...)

Don't stop learning Psycle, it's got other great functionality!

C,ya...

What about specific machines? Is it possible to use a VST machine or a (shiver) imported Buzz machine?

For that matter, is it possible to code a machine to control MIDI out? Or is this a limitation within Psycle? Does it have to be a limitation? Or can we get a lobby to get it as a feature?

When it comes to tracking, I"m looking to get out of Impulse Tracker. I love it...but with the oldskool windows so unstable...I want something new. And Psycle seems to be where it's at, IMHO. But I"m very into MIDI these days...and I don't know if I like having to use two separate programs. I just cannot give up tracking. (Besides...the whole soft-synth thing has so much appeal).

Hi Coplan,

Your so right! A latency sinced midi-out plug-in would be great.

(But I'm not a great coder )

Druid.

Hey, thanks for all the responses!
Basically what I am trying to figure out, is how to "hook up" Psycle to an external MIDI sequencer, like Quartz Audio FreeMaster. So far I've gathered that I need to check that box for sequencing under MIDI preferences. But wow, I'm having a tough time trying to figure out how to have one machine respond to channel 2, another on channel 3, etc. I don't need MIDI out from Psycle, I'm just trying to figure out the multi-channel MIDI in! And in the MIDI docs section, it seems to indicate it's possible (i.e. the MIDI monitor picture), but for the life of me, it seems to be over my head! I'm not that technically oriented, if ya know what I mean!

Wow, I must really be an airhead if I can't figure this out!

I am in contact with the main developer of Z-tracker and we might work in conjuntion with our trackers, meaning Psycle will beneficiate from an accurate MIDI playback from ZTracker, and ZTracker might get Audio.

This is true right now. There was once a plugin that let the users do MIDI-out, but it never worked too well. Also, you'll have sync problems, since you have a latency for audio that you won't have for MIDI. I think i am not going to do any patch to Version 1.x, since It would seem to be loosing time than anything.

Yes, but read above

c.micali (spelling?) is a good guy. I have him on my ICQ list and I chat with him often enough. As it is, I'm likely going to be helping with bug reports and beta testing for the next version of ZT.

I extend to offer to the Psycle crew as well...as I really want to have some sort of good MIDI tracker of sorts.

Hrmm...it seems you get a nice peice of equipment, there is no going back. I have no urge to use Impulse Tracker much anymore...

Hi there!

I am using Psycle as a VSTI hosyt only. The best I have ever seen with the lowest latency I have ever seen. So THANK YOU to people who developed this great tool.

I am facing the same problem. Tried changing the midi channel in the machines window but that doesn't work.

In the midi monitor there are some channel mapping but I can not figure out how to map them.

I am trying to figure out how to change patch in a vst plugin from my midi keyboard. I can change the machine by sending a program change but I can't change the patch in one vst plugin.

From pooplog on 26.05.2003, 00:18:

I think midi out is an important feature - there are various vst plugs you can get that send midi-out, but native midi-out machine is necessary.

psycle DOES have midiout capabilities, although i believe that it only works in WME mode...

I no longer remember how the MIDI in worked (more even when I didn't do it and don't have MIDI equipment).

The best I can tell you is to check the midi information in the docs folder of psycle, although you might have already done so.
